The women\u2019s team topped the Horned Frogs, 165-88, while the men claimed the victory with a final score of 176-65.<u><\/u><u><\/u><u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">\u00ad\u00ad\u00adWest Virginia\u2019s star freshman duo of <strong>Emily Haimes<\/strong> and <strong>Hunter Armstrong<\/strong> paced their respective teams, earning six total wins among them, including two individual victories apiece. Armstrong\u2019s individual wins came in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Haimes picked up a victories in the 50 and 100 free.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">\u201cWe had a very impressive meet today for both teams,\u201d West Virginia swimming coach<a href=\"https:\/\/wvusports.com\/sports\/mens-swimming-and-diving\/roster\/coaches\/vic-riggs\/1395\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <strong>Vic Riggs<\/strong><\/a> said. \u201cOur relays were strong and paced us all day. I thought that the men and women both competed very well as a team today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">The meet opened with a pair of victories in the 200-yard medley relays. Senior <strong>Ally VanNetta<\/strong>, freshman <strong>Mathilde Kaelbel<\/strong> and seniors<strong> Morgan Bullock<\/strong> and <strong>Julia Nilton<\/strong> secured the win in 1:46.80 for the women, while Armstrong, sophomore <strong>Fausto Huerta<\/strong> and juniors <strong>David Dixon<\/strong> and<strong> Ryen Van Wyk<\/strong> finished first for the men (1:30.97).<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">WVU grabbed two second-place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle, as senior <strong>Alex Pampalone<\/strong> finished second for the women (10:31.55) and freshman <strong>Zach Boley<\/strong> did the same for the men (9:54.17). Then, in the 200-yard freestyle, junior <strong>Giselle Gursoy<\/strong> and sophomore <strong>Emma Bliss<\/strong> finished side-by-side, taking second (1:54.92) and third (1:56.30), respectively. Senior <strong>Trayton Saladin<\/strong> took the win for WVU in the men\u2019s event in 1:42.95, and <strong>Max Gustafson<\/strong> finished in second (1:43.11).<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">In the 200-yard individual medley, Bullock secured her first individual win of the day with a time of 2:07.77. Dixon did the same for the men, touching the wall in 1:50.37 to lead a 1-2-3 finish for WVU. Sophomore <strong>Josh<\/strong> <strong>Harlan<\/strong> followed in second (1:54.85) and junior <strong>Phillip Kay<\/strong> was third (1:55.06). Haimes led the way in the 50 free, taking second place after touching the wall in 24.07, while Armstrong collected his first individual win in the men\u2019s event in 20.74. <u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-12-conference-coverage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MORE BIG 12 CONFERENCE COVERAGE<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">In the diving well, West Virginia\u2019s divers excelled, as both teams swept the 1- and 3-meter springboard competitions. On 1-meter, redshirt senior <strong>Austin Smith<\/strong> secured his first victory of the season, taking first place with a score of 296.775. Sophomore <strong>Nick Cover<\/strong> took second place (289.5), while sophomore <strong>PJ Lenz<\/strong> grabbed third (276.9). Cover took the top spot on 3-meter, with a mark of 313.05. He was followed by Lenz in second place (308.7) and Smith in third (305.325).<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">Freshman <strong>Holly Darling<\/strong> paced the women\u2019s team, placing first on 1- and 3-meter with scores of 278.85 and 295.575, respectively. Sophomore <strong>Camille Burt<\/strong> took second on 1-meter with a 261.075 mark, and junior <strong>Callie Smith<\/strong> was third (235.65). On 3-meter, Smith was second (272.25) and Burt was third (260.1). <u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">\u201cToday was a good day for the divers,\u201d diving coach <strong>Michael Grapner<\/strong> said. \u201cThe team\u2019s energy was exciting, which helped them perform. Holly was very consistent on both boards and definitely had fun today. Before the meet, I talked to the divers about remembering why diving us fun and to go out and simply have fun.\u201d<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">Back in the competition pool, freshman <strong>Harna Minezawa<\/strong> collected her first victory of her freshman campaign in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.67, while Dixon did the same for the men in 47.82. In the 100-yard freestyle, Haimes earned her first win of the day after touching the wall in 52.02. Van Wyk finished second (46.75) in the men\u2019s race.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">Gursoy placed second in the 500 free in 5:10.51, while Saladin tallied his second win of the contest in 4:42.36 for the men. In the second relay of the day, the 200 free, the women and men secured two more victories. Haimes, Nilton, Bliss and Gursoy took the win for the women (1:36.50), and Van Wyk, junior <strong>Christopher<\/strong> <strong>O\u2019Shea<\/strong> and seniors <strong>Jack Frazier<\/strong> and <strong>Sam Neaveill<\/strong> finished in 1:24.99 for the men.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">VanNetta picked up her first individual win of the day in the 100 backstroke after touching the wall in 56.72, while Armstrong grabbed another win in the men\u2019s event in 49.52. Then, the Mountaineers grabbed two more wins in the 100 breaststroke events from Kaelbel in the women\u2019s race (1:08.38) and Huerta in the men\u2019s (56.91).<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">In the final swims of the day, the 400 free relays, WVU ended the meet the way it started with two relay victories. Haimes, Bullock, Gursoy and Bliss combined to finish first in 3:31.81, followed by a win from Armstrong, Dixon, O\u2019Shea and Gustafson in 3:06.29 in the men\u2019s race.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2957865453427543943MsoNoSpacing\">The Mountaineer men collected their second win in two days on Saturday after they topped SMU Friday night, 182-117. With today\u2019s victory, the squad moves to 3-1 in dual meets and 1-0 in the Big 12.
