{"id":411424,"date":"2020-01-17T11:10:41","date_gmt":"2020-01-17T18:10:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=411424"},"modified":"2020-01-17T11:17:53","modified_gmt":"2020-01-17T18:17:53","slug":"usa-swimming-introduces-new-partnership-with-talkspace-as-part-of-new-national-team-mental-health-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-introduces-new-partnership-with-talkspace-as-part-of-new-national-team-mental-health-program\/","title":{"rendered":"USA Swimming Introduces New Partnership With TalkSpace As Part of New National Team Mental Health Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>USA Swimming announced a new partnership on Wednesday with the mental health service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.talkspace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Talkspace<\/a>, that will give new mental health services at no cost to all members of the US National team and the 2016 Olympic team.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cOur role in the National Team division is to support our National Team athletes and to understand how we best provide for their physical, emotional and mental well-being,\u201d USA Swimming Managing Director <strong>Lindsay\u00a0Mintenko<\/strong> said in a press release from USA Swimming. \u201cPartnering with a leader such as Talkspace to provide easy, reliable access to mental health services will hopefully motivate more athletes to prioritize their mental health, while also creating a legion of inspiring role models for the younger generations to further the dialogue to stamp out the stigma.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cProviding USA Swimming athletes with access to\u00a0Talkspace\u00a0as they prepare for competition and \u2018life after the pool&#8217; gives the athletes the opportunity to achieve their peak mental performance in a de-stigmatized, flexible way,\u201d\u00a0Talkspace\u00a0Chief Commercial Officer, <strong>Lynn Hamilton<\/strong>, said in the USA Swimming press release. \u201cBy partnering with Talkspace, USA Swimming athletes will be able to connect with providers in a way that respects their individual schedules and needs. We are proud official partners of this accomplished organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many US national team athletes have come forward in the last few years about their struggles with mental health issues like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/olympics\/2015\/11\/09\/michael-phelps-rehabilitation-rio-2016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/espn\/feature\/story\/_\/id\/17125857\/us-olympic-swimmer-allison-schmitt-takes-aim-stigma-depression\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Allison Schmitt<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and most recently,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tom-shields-opens-up-about-what-led-him-to-near-suicide-experience-in-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tom Shields<\/strong><\/a>.
