The complex includes the abandoned site of the pool in which we witnessed the last stand of <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong>, the most decorated Olympian of all-time.<\/p>\n<p>The Rio pool was dismantled after the Games but the building remained as a facility in decay for a long time after the last race was swum, the last drop of water drained. Its legacy stands in stark contrast to that of the iconic <strong>Water Cube<\/strong> (National Aquatics Center) in Beijing, thriving and in regular use 12 years after Phelps raced to a record eight gold medals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judge Eugenio Rosa de Araujo<\/strong> made the Brazilian order late on Wednesday, his deadline set to run out before the weekend begins. There were no current safety licences for the site, while Rio\u2019s city hall had not provided safety assurances for the Olympic Park to hold public events, the Judge noted in his ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The news coincides with the installation today of a giant Olympic rings monument by <strong>Tokyo 2020 Games<\/strong> organisers in the shadow of the Japanese capital&#8217;s <strong>Rainbow Bridge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Go back a cycle and Rio was welcoming the world to its Olympic Park in 2016. Since then, the site has made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Those included investigations into two members of the 2013-17 FINA Bureau, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/controversial-kenyan-swimming-federation-president-steps-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ben Ekumbo<\/strong><\/a>, of Kenya, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/coaracy-nunes-fina-brazil-swim-fed-boss-until-arrest-associates-jailed-for-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Coaracy Nunes<\/strong><\/a>, of Brazil. Both men were subsequently convicted of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>International Olympic Committee (IOC)<\/strong> announced soon after Rio that it had started an investigation into allegations that up to nine of its members were bribed to vote for Rio\u2019s bid for the 2016 Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>The claims were made by Rio de Janeiro\u2019s former state governor <strong>Sergio Cabral<\/strong> in a court in Rio.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Rio&#8217;s city hall announced that it will appeal against Judge Rosa de Araujo&#8217;s ruling, while the city\u2019s fire brigade was reported by <em>Reuters<\/em> and saying that the relevant facilities at the Rio Olympic Park had all the necessary safety documents for events to be held.<\/p>\n<p>Over in Tokyo, the five interlocking rings will be installed at <strong>Odaiba Marine Park in Tokyo Bay<\/strong>, the site for the marathon swimming and triathlon events this year, controversy in the mix.<\/p>\n<p>The Rings monument, built in Yokohama and brought to the Tokyo waterfront area atop a salvage barge, is 32.6 metres wide and stands 15.3 metres tall.<\/p>\n<p>It will be officially inaugurated at a ceremony on January 24, precisely six months before the start of the Olympics.
