Five different swimmers won at least two individual events with the likes of\u00a0<strong>Mallory Jump<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Trent Pellini<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Claire Abbasse<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Nick McDowell\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Nikola Acin<\/strong> shining for the Boilermakers.<\/p>\n<p>Jump won three events in the 100 back (56.50), 200 back (2:01.93) and 100 fly (55.67) as the Purdue women beat the Spartans 187.5 &#8211; 107.5. She led 1-2-3 finishes in all three events. Abbasse took the win in both the 50 (23.92) and 100 free (51.97) as her and Jump teamed up to also win the 200 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side, Nikola Acin made his official semester debut for the Boilers after sitting out the fall to nurse an injury. Acin won the 50 (20.45) and 100 free (45.09) as he will be a big boost to Purdue&#8217;s relays moving forward to Big Ten&#8217;s and NCAAs. Acin also finished second in the 200 free at 1:42.60.<\/p>\n<p>Trent Pellini, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/trent-pellini-posts-nation-leading-time-in-100-breast-at-purdue-invitational\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lit up the pool at the Purdue Invite<\/a> in November, won the 100 breast with a 56.50 and also took the 200 at 2:04.62. The men fell to the Boilermakers, (184-113), while the women were defeated 187.5-107.5.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Credit to Purdue they competed well. We swam really well tonight and had a pretty good meet,&#8221; said head coach <strong>Matt Gianodis<\/strong>. &#8220;Emma Inch has a really good meet. I thought <strong>Michael Schwers<\/strong> swam really well and won two events. We were really close on a few of them and we&#8217;ve got some work to do before Oakland.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Spartans first victory of the night was claimed by freshman <strong>Emma Inch<\/strong> in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:14.18, while freshman <strong>Sophia Balow<\/strong> came in second (10:28.15).<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 freestyle, junior <strong>Aidan Farley<\/strong> took first place, clocking a time of 1:39.69.<\/p>\n<p>Both junior <strong>Marie Dickson<\/strong> and Inch placed in the 200 butterfly. Dickson took first, (2:05.32), and Inch finished third (2:05.48).<\/p>\n<p>The men also had two swimmers place in the 200 butterfly. Seniors <strong>Michael Schwers<\/strong> and <strong>Scott Piper<\/strong> took first and second place with times of 1:50.60 and 1:52.68, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Schwers claimed his second victory of the night in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.50 and freshman Brad Sanford took third (50.61).<\/p>\n<p>The Spartans women swept the top three spots in the 200 IM. Dickson finished in first, (2:07.57), junior <strong>Abbey Neveling<\/strong> took second, (2:09.10) and sophomore <strong>Kelley Heron<\/strong> took third, (2:12.89).<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 400 freestyle relay captured the final win of the night, (3:34.56), swam by <strong>Chloe Reed<\/strong>, <strong>Kennedy Truex<\/strong>, <strong>Allie Heineman<\/strong> and <strong>Olivia Chick<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Purdue Swimming and Diving started off the 2020 calendar year with two wins over Big Ten rival Michigan State.
