{"id":409669,"date":"2020-01-04T13:56:25","date_gmt":"2020-01-04T20:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=409669"},"modified":"2020-01-04T16:09:55","modified_gmt":"2020-01-04T23:09:55","slug":"northwestern-swimming-splits-with-arizona-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/northwestern-swimming-splits-with-arizona-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Northwestern Swimming Splits with Arizona State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Northwestern swimming wrapped up its West Coast weekend with the women&#8217;s team besting No. 21 ASU 164.5-133.5 and the men falling to the No. 12 Sun Devils, 155-143.<\/p>\n<p>Senior <strong>DJ Hwang<\/strong> captured the Wildcats first win of the day, out-touching his competition by almost 10 seconds in the 1000 Free to finish in a seasons best time of 9:15.94.<\/p>\n<p>In her first win of the day, junior <strong>Calypso Sheridan<\/strong><dfn><\/dfn> brought home the gold in the 100 back, leading the &#8216;Cats 1-3-5 finish in the event with first-year <strong>Emma Lepisova<\/strong><dfn><\/dfn> and senior <strong>Nicole Aarts<\/strong> scoring valuable NU points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-ten-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BIG TEN COVERAGE<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/pac-12-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PAC-12 COVERAGE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Northwestern swimming went on to sweep the 100 breast and 200 fly on both the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s side. First-year <strong>Hannah Brunzell<\/strong> <dfn><\/dfn> led the 1-2-5 finish by junior<strong> Sophie Angus<\/strong> and senior <strong>Lindsay Adamkski<\/strong> in the 100 breast in a time of 1:01.99. The men finished with an identical 1-2-5 finish led by first-years<strong> Kevin Houseman<\/strong> and <strong>Marcus Mok<\/strong><dfn><\/dfn> who finished 1-2 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 fly, sophomore <strong>Miriam Guevera<\/strong><dfn><\/dfn> led the 1-3-6 finish of first-years <strong>Rosa Erdemli<\/strong> <dfn><\/dfn>and <strong>Danielle<\/strong> <strong>Nowaski<\/strong> <dfn><\/dfn> to best second place by two seconds in 1:59.28. First-year <strong>Federico Burdisso<\/strong> <dfn><\/dfn>continued an impressive opening weekend with a two second victory in a time of 1:45.95.<\/p>\n<p>The women also swept the diving boards with first-years <strong>Markie Hopkins<\/strong><dfn><\/dfn> and <strong>Leah Parsons<\/strong> leading the Wildcats 1-2-3 finish and taking top marks in the 3 Meter and 1 Meter respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <strong>Manu Bacarizo<\/strong> led the charge for NU to finish 1-3-4 in the 200 back, followed by sophomore\u00a0 <strong>Ryan Gridley<\/strong> and senior <strong>Jack Thorne<\/strong><dfn><\/dfn>.<\/p>\n<p>Mok brought home his first win of the day in the 200 breast in a time of 2:00.57, followed by teammates <strong>Henry Blaul<\/strong> and Houseman.<\/p>\n<p>Other notable wins for Northwestern swimming included Brunzell in the 200 breast, Guevara in the 100 fly and Sheridan and Blaul in the 200 IM to finish the day with 14 individual event wins.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A view from Arizona State<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b>In their first dual meet since November, the No. 12 Sun Devil men&#8217;s swimming and diving team defeated the Northwestern Wildcats 155-143, while the No. 21 women fell to the Wildcats 164.5-133.5 Saturday afternoon at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We just have to sharpen up some things,&#8221; said head swim coach <strong>Bob Bowman<\/strong>. &#8220;We&#8217;ve been training really hard. We trained before the meet, that&#8217;s just part of it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For the Sun Devil men,<strong> Liam Bresette<\/strong> (1:38.10), Carter Swift (1:38.21) and <strong>Cody Bybee<\/strong> (1:38.85) finished one-two-three in the 200 free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Evan Carlson<\/strong> notched two wins on the day, taking first in the 50 free and the 100 fly.
