The longtime couple announced their engagement on Instagram on Sunday, with a picture of a smiling Kromowidjojo revealing a new piece of jewelry.<\/p>\n<p>Their&#8217;s will be a marriage of Olympic champions sprint and marathon.<\/p>\n<p>Kromowidjojo and Weertman form a couple from opposite ends of the distance spectrum, Kromowidjojo the double-sprint freestyle champion from the 2012 <strong>Olympic Games<\/strong> in London and Weertman the gold medalist in the 10k open-water event at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Kromowidjojo won multiple Skins competitions during the season, in the process demonstrating her ability to rise up in the pressure-filled event. If nothing else, those efforts should have provided Kromowidjojo with confidence and momentum entering the Olympic campaign, where she will be among the medal favorites in the 50 free and 100 free.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to sweeping the sprint events in London, Kromowidjojo advanced to the finals of the 50 free and 100 free at the Rio Games. It was later revealed that the Dutch superstar was forced to race at those Games with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ranomi-kromowidjojo-reveals-she-swam-through-olympics-with-major-back-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">serious back injury<\/a> that significantly hindered her performances.<\/p>\n<p>Weertman has been one of his sport&#8217;s most-consistent performers in the open-water ranks for several years, complementing his Olympic title with three medals from the World Championships.
