This week’s ZUMO Performance of the Week goes to Dutch breaststroker Arno Kamminga\u00a0<\/strong>for his 58.65 100 breast at the Amsterdam Cup. Kamminga qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games with his swim, solidifying his spot on his first Olympic team for next year. The 24-year-old moved up to fifth in the world for the 2019 calendar year, blowing his World Championships swims out of the water where he didn’t even qualify for the final in Gwangju.<\/p>\n

Kamminga’s time of 58.65 would have been fourth at the World Championships in July<\/a>, just 0.02 away from bronze medal winner\u00a0Yan Zibei\u00a0<\/strong>of China. Kamminga was 13th at Worlds with a 59.4 in the semi finals. His 100 breast performance was also a new Dutch record as he lowered his own record of 58.98 from the FINA World Cup in November.<\/p>\n

Kamminga has enjoyed a nice autumn since the World Championships, improving on his best times at the World Cup circuit across Europe and Asia. He also won both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes at the beginning of the month at the European Short Course Championships in Glasgow. He also won the 200 breaststroke this weekend in Amsterdam with a 2:08.02, just off his best time of 2:07.9.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cHere in the Sloterparkbad (Kamminga\u2019s home pool) I know every tile. I have gained a lot of confidence in Glasgow.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt World Cups, not everything was great and not all the top players are present. In Scotland it was different of course.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

His coach\u00a0Mark Faber<\/strong>\u00a0added: \u201cTo be honest, it doesn\u2019t surprise me. He enters here as a European champion and has simply taken his good form and confidence with him.\u201d<\/p>\n
