The Scottish National Short-Course Championships started with a bang in Edinburgh as the men\u2019s University of Stirling 4x50m medley relay set a new British record to consign another mark from the shiny-suit era to history.<\/p>\n

The quartet of Martyn Walton<\/strong>, Ross Murdoch<\/strong>, Duncan Scott<\/strong> and Scott McLay<\/strong> stopped the clock at 1min 33.52secs at the Royal Commonwealth Pool to cut 0.68secs from the previous mark set by the Great Britain quartet in December 2009 at the European Short-Course Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.<\/p>\n

Craig McNally<\/strong> set a new Scottish record of 1:51.66 in the 200m backstroke, lowering Gregor Tait\u2019<\/strong>s mark of 1:51.66 from 2008.<\/p>\n

The University of Stirling swimmer was in control throughout and touched 3.77secs ahead of Scott, who will contest the 100m breaststroke on Saturday before heading off to Las Vegas with London Roar for the International Swimming League final.<\/p>\n

Murdoch lowered his own Scottish record in the 50m breaststroke to 26.26 and Lucy Hope<\/strong> of Edinburgh University set a national record of 53.26 in the 100 free in second behind Freya Anderson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Anderson claimed the 100 and 200 freestyle double at the European Short-Course Championships in Glasgow last week along with an eye-opening fourth in the 400m, hinting at special things to come from the 18-year-old.<\/p>\n

The Ellesmere College Titans swimmer led all the way to touch in 52.56, 1.07secs outside the time in which she took gold in Glasgow, although that mattered little.<\/p>\n

She told Scottish Swimming: \u201cJust about working on my turns and my skills here, that\u2019s what the coach (Alan Bircher) has said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully I did alright skills-wise in that race; it\u2019s not about the times this weekend, it\u2019s just about going out and enjoying it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Commonwealth silver medallist Mark Szaranek<\/strong> dominated the 400IM, unleashing a time of 4:02.32, third best in the world so far this season, while former European and Commonwealth medallist Hannah Miley<\/strong>\u00a0took the women\u2019s title in 4:34.25.<\/p>\n

Craig McLean<\/strong> led a University of Stirling clean sweep of the medals in the men\u2019s 100m freestyle in 47.73 with McLay coming from seventh at halfway to take silver in 48.05 ahead of Walton.<\/p>\n

Lucy Grieve<\/strong>, 15, of South Ayrshire clocked a Scottish junior record of 26.69 en-route to the women\u2019s 50 fly title, Calum Bain taking the men\u2019s.<\/p>\n

There were also victories for Kathryn Greenslade<\/strong> in the 200 back and Danielle Huskisson<\/strong> and Kieran Bird<\/strong> in the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 800m freestyle.<\/p>\n
