Weitzeil won another event, this time the 200 free, while Texas stars <strong>Maxime Rooney<\/strong> and <strong>Drew Kibler <\/strong>won huge events in NCAA-best times, while <strong>Austin Katz<\/strong> was not far off. Nebraska 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s <strong>Alicia Wilson<\/strong> started Friday&#8217;s session with a strong swim in the 400 IM to hold off the field at the Minnesota Invitational.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson used splits of 54.43-1:00.66-1:13.75-58.67 to win in 4:07.51.<\/p>\n<p>Texas junior <strong>Evie Pfeifer<\/strong> took second in 4:08.58, followed by Cal&#8217;s <strong>Sarah Darcel<\/strong> (4:09.26), Arizona&#8217;s <strong>Hannah Cox<\/strong> (4:11.94) and Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Victoria Kwan<\/strong> (4:12.75).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s <strong>Trenton Julian<\/strong> turned on the jets to hold off Texas&#8217; <strong>Braden Vines<\/strong> to win the 400 IM \u2014 and turn in the top time in the NCAA this season in the event \u2014 at the Minnesota Invitational.<\/p>\n<p>Julian finished in 3:40.05 to hold off Vines (3:40.09) by just four hundredths of a second. He split a 49.45 in the fly before a 56.01 in the backstroke, a 1:02.85 in the breaststroke and closed with a 51.74 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Vines was just behind Julian from the start as he split a 50.80 fly, before splits of 56.26, 1:00.96 and 52.07.<\/p>\n<p>Texas freshman <strong>Jake Foster<\/strong> was third in 3:40.71, followed by Michigan&#8217;s<strong> Tommy Cope<\/strong> (3:43.05) and Cal&#8217;s <strong>Sean Grieshop<\/strong> (3:44.73).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 100 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Maggie MacNeil<\/strong> tied the NCAA record in the 100 fly to win in 49.26 after dropping 1.32 seconds from prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s <strong>Izzy Ivey<\/strong> was second in 51.46, a strong time for a midseason invitational. Ivey has had a strong meet overall.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota&#8217;s <strong>Tevyn Waddell<\/strong> was third in 52.20, followed by Texas&#8217;s <strong>Kelly Pash<\/strong> (52.57) and Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Vanessa Krause<\/strong> (53.20).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 100 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 100 fly was extremely fast as well, though no one approached <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>&#8216;s NCAA record of 42.80.<\/p>\n<p>Texas senior <strong>Maxime Rooney<\/strong> led a 1-2 Longhorn finish with an impressive 44.83, by far the fastest time in the NCAA this season.<strong> Alvin Jiang<\/strong> was second in 44.93. The duo will give Texas plenty of relay options with their times and also their versatility, especially Rooney, who can swim butterfly on medley relays or anchor them.<\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s <strong>Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> finished third in 45.46, ahead of Arizona&#8217;s <strong>Noah Reid<\/strong> (45.95) and Cal&#8217;s <strong>Pawel Sendyk<\/strong> (46.02).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 200 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s<strong> Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> continued her strong performance at the Minnesota Invitational, claiming victory in the 200 free.<\/p>\n<p>Weitzeil finished in 1:42.25 to best the rest of the field by nearly two seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Her ability to perform in the NCAA&#8217;s elite in the 50, 100, 200 and relays will lead her to another special season after her stellar NCAA championships last year.<\/p>\n<p>The Golden Bears went 1-2-4 in the event as <strong>Robin Neumann<\/strong> was second in 1:44.05 and <strong>Ayla Spitz<\/strong> finished fourth in 1:45.52.<\/p>\n<p>Iowa&#8217;s <strong>Hannah Burvill<\/strong> took third in 1:45.40 and Texas&#8217; <strong>Bridget Semenuk<\/strong> was fifth in 1:45.86.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 200 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas sophomore <strong>Drew Kibler<\/strong> turned in one of the most eye-popping swims of the meet, going 1:30.83 in the 200 free, a little more than a second from the NCAA record set by Harvard&#8217;s <strong>Dean Farris<\/strong> leading off the 800 free relay at March&#8217;s NCAA championships.<\/p>\n<p>Kibler&#8217;s time is by far the fastest in the NCAA this year and was two seconds ahead of the rest of the field.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan&#8217;s<strong> Patrick Callan<\/strong> was second in 1:32.91, followed by Texas&#8217; <strong>Sam Pomajevich<\/strong> (1:33.13),<strong> Peter Larson<\/strong> (1:33.65) and Arizona&#8217;s<strong> Daniel Namir<\/strong> (1:34.17).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 100 Breast<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Michigan&#8217;s<strong> Miranda Tucker<\/strong> continued her strong start to the season with a strong race in the 100 breast. The Michigan senior clocked a 58.41 to win the event. It is the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season and was enough to hold off Minnesota&#8217;s <strong>Lindsey Kozelski<\/strong> (58.66).<\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s <strong>Ema Rajic<\/strong> was third in 59.31, followed by Arizona&#8217;s <strong>Mallory Korenwinder<\/strong> (59.74) and Cal&#8217;s<strong> Ali Harrison<\/strong> (1:00.30).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 100 Breast<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Minnesota&#8217;s <strong>Max McHugh<\/strong> used home-pool advantage to earn an extremely close victory in the 100 breast. McHugh finished in 51.35, the fastest time in the NCAA this season.<\/p>\n<p>It was barely enough to get past Cal&#8217;s<strong> Reece Whitley<\/strong>, who finished in 51.50, the second-fastest time of the year, and Michigan&#8217;s<strong> Jeremy Babinet<\/strong> (51.63), the third-fastest this season.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; <strong>Caspar Corbeau<\/strong> was fourth in 51.69 and Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Will Chan<\/strong> was fifth in 51.91.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 100 Back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s <strong>Izzy Ivey<\/strong> completed an impressive double, just like she did at NCAAs, and again shined in both. After taking runner-up in the 100 fly, Ivey dropped 0.45 from prelims to win the 100 back in 51.08.<\/p>\n<p>Ivey held off Texas senior <strong>Claire Adams<\/strong> (51.2) and sophomore<strong> Julia Cook<\/strong> (51.67).<\/p>\n<p>Arizona&#8217;s <strong>Aria Bernal<\/strong> was fourth in 52.44, followed by Cal&#8217;s <strong>Keaton Blovad<\/strong> (52.45).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 100 Back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas junior <strong>Austin Katz<\/strong> led a stunning 1-2-3 Longhorn finish in the 100 back with a dominating swim of 44.93.
