Nelson is the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/beata-nelson-unleashes-49-18-in-100-back-for-new-american-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> defending NCAA champion<\/a> in the 100 back and also holds the American record. She showed why she will still be tough to beat this season as she was able to take down rising star in freshman\u00a0<strong>Katharine Berkoff\u00a0<\/strong>of NC State (51.97) by nearly two seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson also swam the 100 fly this morning but scratched to focus on the backstroke.
