{"id":403217,"date":"2019-11-21T20:04:17","date_gmt":"2019-11-22T03:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=403217"},"modified":"2019-11-21T20:24:04","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T03:24:04","slug":"erika-brown-matches-anna-hopkins-21-19-in-50-free-at-tennessee-kate-douglass-crushes-200-im","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/erika-brown-matches-anna-hopkins-21-19-in-50-free-at-tennessee-kate-douglass-crushes-200-im\/","title":{"rendered":"Erika Brown Matches Anna Hopkin&#8217;s 21.19 in 50 Free at Tennessee; Kate Douglass Crushes 200 IM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"western\">Tennessee swimming started its home invitational in the fast lane as the Volunteers sprinted to victory in the 200-yard free relay on Thursday. <strong>Bailey Grinter, Erika Brown, Megan Sichterman<\/strong> and <strong>Stanzi Moseley<\/strong> won the event in 1:27.20, the top time in the NCAA this season just ahead of USC&#8217;s set at the Texas A&amp;M Art Adamson Invitational on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Erika Brown won the 50 free in 21.19 to match <strong>Anna Hopkin<\/strong>&#8216;s time from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/anna-hopkin-blasts-21-19-in-50-free-at-missouri-invite-tigers-swim-5-ncaa-leading-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the previous day at the Missouri invite<\/a> as the top time in the NCAA this year. Virginia&#8217;s Morgan Hill was second in 21.82.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">In the men&#8217;s 200 free relay, Indiana&#8217;s <strong>Gabriel Fantoni, Bruno Blasovic, Jack Franzman<\/strong> and <strong>Mohamed Samy<\/strong> clocked a 1:17.41, the fastest time in the NCAA as well. Samy lowered his top time in the NCAA in the 200 IM, winning in 1:44.00 ahead of Tennessee&#8217;s Matthew Garcia (1:44.71).<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Virginia freshman <strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong> lowered her own top time in the NCAA in the 200 IM, winning in 1:52.84 to hold off Georgia&#8217;s <strong>Zoie Hartman<\/strong> (1:53.69) and Tennessee&#8217;s <strong>Meghan Small<\/strong> (1:54.49) in a strong race. Douglass&#8217; time broke the ACC record in the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Douglass, swimming the butterfly leg, teamed with <strong>Caroline Gmelich, Alexis Wenger<\/strong> and Hill to win the 400 medley relay in the NCAA&#8217;s fastest time of the season. The men also had the top time in the NCAA as<strong> Joe Clark, Keefer Barnum<\/strong>, <strong>Cooper Wozencraft<\/strong> and <strong>Ryan Baker<\/strong> won in 3:06.69.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Virginia&#8217;s <strong>Paige Madden<\/strong> won the 500 free in 4:34.64 to finish ahead of Georgia&#8217;s <strong>Courtney Harnisch<\/strong> (4:37.16).<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">In the men&#8217;s 500, Virginia completed the sweep as <strong>Jack Walker<\/strong> won the event in 4:15.27 to hold off Indiana&#8217;s <strong>Mikey Calvillo<\/strong> (4:15.94).<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><strong>Kyle DeCoursey<\/strong> won the 50 free in 19.34 ahead of <strong>Alec Connolly<\/strong> (19.47).<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Tennessee&#8217;s <strong>Grace Cable<\/strong> won 1-meter diving with a score of 299.05 to finish head of Georgia&#8217;s <strong>McKensi Austin<\/strong> (296.05).<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Georgia&#8217;s <strong>Zach Allen<\/strong> won 3-meter diving with 371.85 points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tennessee swimming started its home invitational in the fast lane as the Volunteers sprinted to victory in the 200-yard free relay on Thursday.
