Sunset pulled to within two goals at 5-3 early in the second quarter, but NYAC poured it on from there, outscoring them 10-4 for the duration. Dan Hackett stuffed seven shots in goal for NYAC.

Game 26: Stanford Water Polo 11, New York Athletic Club "B" 7
Stanford jumped out to an early lead, eventually handing NYAC "B" its first loss, 11-7. Tony Azevedo burned the net for four goals in the win for Stanford, while teammates Peter Hudnut, Jeff Nesmith, and Jeff Guyman all had two apiece. NYAC, which connected on five of its nine man-advantage opportunities, was outgunned 3-1 in the final quarter of play.

Game 27: Newport Water Polo "A" 11, Golden Bear Water Polo "A" 4
Newport "A" continued its march through the bracket, picking up its fourth straight win, 11-4, this time over Golden Bear "A". Jeff Powers led all scorers with five goals scored, but teammate Ryan Bailey was not far behind with four. Genai Kerr stopped seven shots in goal for Newport. Golden Bear played Newport to a 1-1 tie after one quarter, but saw their hopes
dwindle away in a scoreless second quarter. Newport went ahead, 4-1, and never looked back.

Game 28: Bruin Water Polo 8, Malibu Water Polo 8
Malibu came from two goals down in the fourth quarter to catch Bruin and secure an 8-8 tie. Michael March gave Bruin an 8-6 lead with his third goal of the day with 5:44 to play in the fourth quarter, but a score by Malibu's Jesse Smith at the 2:30 mark cut the advantage to one goal. With 1:47 to play in the game, Malibu's Dan Domenici connected on his only goal of the
game to knot the score at 8-8.

Game 29: Stanford Water Polo 11, Sunset San Diego 4
Jeff Nesmith buried three goals and Peter Hudnut had two as Stanford did away with Sunset San Diego, 11-4. Stanford paved the way early, taking a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. Jon Hopkins set the pace on offense for Sunset, scoring three of his team's four goals .

Game 30: New York Athletic Club "A" 6, New York Athletic Club "B" 1
Wolf Wigo scored two goals to lead NYAC "A" over NYAC "B, 6-1. Oleg Petrik scored the lone goal for NYAC "B", but Merrill Moses proved strong in goal again, collecting 10 saves. NYAC "A" goalkeeper Dan Hackett had seven saves in the win.

Game 31: Golden Bear "A" 9, Bruin Water Polo 7
Golden Bear roared out to a 7-1 lead, but Bruin smothered the flames from that point on, fighting back to within two goals in the fourth quarter. But Golden Bear held on for a 9-7 win. University High (Irvine, Calif.) Ted Peck scored a pair of goals for Bruin, as did Albert Garcia. Andrew Stoddard and Will Quist paced Golden Bear with two goals apiece in the victory.

Game 32: Newport Water Polo "A" 12, Malibu Water Polo 4
Newport Water Polo "A" maintained its unblemished record (5-0) with a 12-4 win over Malibu. Malibu held a 1-0 lead after one quarter of play, but a Ryan Bailey-led offense proved to be too much. Bailey scored six goals before the final buzzer had sounded, and goalkeeper Genai Kerr picked up eight saves in goal.

Tomorrow's Schedule (Sunday, Aug. 4)

At Corona del Mar High School
Time Game No. Team vs. Team
7:00 am 41 New York Athletic Club "B" vs. Bruin Water Polo
8:10 am 42 Sunset San Diego vs. Golden Bear "A"
9:20 am 43 G1 vs. G4
10:30 am 44 G2 vs. G3
11:40 am 45 (7th Place) Loser Game No. 41 vs. Loser Game No. 42
12:50 pm 46 (5th Place) Winner Game No. 41 vs. Winner Game No. 42
2:00 pm 47 (3rd Place) Loser Game No. 43 vs. Loser Game No. 44
3:15 pm 48 (1st Place) Winner Game No. 43 vs. Winner Game No. 44
4:20 pm Awards Ceremony

CORONA DEL MAR, Calif., Aug. 3.
