This week’s ZUMO Performance of the Week goes to\u00a0Caeleb Dressel<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>of the United States and the Cali Condors as he broke the American record in the 50 fly at the ISL American Derby in College Park, Maryland on Sunday. Dressel swam a 22.21 in the 50 fly to lower the American record that belonged to Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>at 22.32 from the 2018 World Cup in Singapore. Ironically both of those swims were done on November 17 with Andrew’s swim coming in 2018 as Dressel broke it exactly one year later.<\/p>\n

Dressel helped the Cali Condors<\/a> advance to the Las Vegas final as they lost a close meet to the LA Current by six points. The Condors have finished in second place at each of their first three matches in the first season of the ISL, taking the first two losses to Energy Standard, with the latter coming within 2.5 points in Naples.<\/p>\n

Dressel won seven events on the weekend, taking wins in the 100 fly (49.16), 50 free (20.81), 100 free (45.69), 50 fly (22.21) and 50 Skins. He also added relay wins by leading off the Condors’ 4×100 free relay team (46.21) as well as the mixed free relay team (45.71). He also swam the butterfly leg on the third place 4×100 medley relay team with a butterfly split of 49.54. But his best performance came from the 50 fly, for obvious reasons, because of the new American record he claimed. In fact, four total American records were broken this weekend in College Park with Dressel and fellow Cali Condor\u00a0Melanie Margalis\u00a0<\/strong>(400 IM) claiming one and\u00a0Ian Finnerty\u00a0<\/strong>of the DC Trident (50, 100 breast) claiming two.<\/p>\n

In the 50 fly, Dressel has moved up to 11th all-time and second in the ISL this season behind only\u00a0Szebasztian Szabo\u00a0<\/strong>of Hungary and Team Iron (22.20). He still has some work to do to catch the world record of\u00a0Nicolas Santos\u00a0<\/strong>(21.75) set at the 2018 FINA World Cup in Budapest.<\/p>\n
