The 2019 Washington Girls 3A State Swimming & Diving Championships took place on Nov. 16 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.<\/p>\n

Bellevue High School senior Janelle Rudolph\u00a0<\/strong>lit the pool on fire, anchoring the 4×50 free relay in a blistering 22.22 as well as throwing down a 47.77 in the 4×100 free relay. The Stanford commit<\/a> also broke her own state and class mark in the 50 free (22.37) and rewrote the record book in the 100 back (52.90).<\/p>\n

Behind Rudolph’s stellar performances, Bellevue earned their third-straight team title with 303 points ahead of Lake Washington (263) and Bainbridge Island (203).<\/p>\n

Bellevue began their winning ways as\u00a0Iris Yang\u00a0<\/strong>(26.35),\u00a0Rylee Siripipat\u00a0<\/strong>(30.07),\u00a0Megan Lei\u00a0<\/strong>(25.56), and Rudolph (22.22) opened the meet as champions in the 4×50 free relay in a combined time of 1:44.20. Their time broke the 3A record of 1:44.58 set by Lakeside Seattle in 2017 and was only two-tenths shy of the overall state mark.<\/p>\n

After finishing second in the 200 free a year ago, Lakeside Seattle’s\u00a0Nathalie Valdman\u00a0<\/strong>found herself with the gold medal this year after winning in 1:48.92 as the only swimmer in the field to dip under the 1:50 barrier. Valdman\u00a0<\/strong>then went on to dominate the 500 free for the second-straight year, winning by seven seconds with a final time of 4:52.80.<\/p>\n

Rudolph dominated the 50 free for the second year in a row, splashing and dashing her way to a the state title in a quick 22.37. Her time broke her own 3A and Washington state record of 22.85 she set at this meet last year. She later led the way in the 100 back, earning the state accolade for the third year in a row in a fast 52.90 to break the previous 3A and state mark of 53.66 set by Mt. Rainier’s Leona Jennings\u00a0<\/strong>in 2008. Both of those times currently rank top-12 in the NCAA so far this year.<\/p>\n

Kayla Kersavage <\/strong>of Snohomish dove to first on the 1-meter board for the third-straight year with a final score of 438.80 ahead of runner-up\u00a0Brooke Andrews <\/strong>of Mercer Island who took second with 402.75 points. Kate Leary <\/strong>of Roosevelt flew to the top of the podium in the 100 fly after finishing third in the event last year, touching the wall in 55.02 to edge out the defending champion Hayes (55.11).<\/p>\n

Stanwood\u2019s\u00a0Jetlynn Hau<\/strong> got her hands to the wall first ahead of the rest of the field in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.04 for the second-consecutive year while her\u00a0teammate Madilyn Murphey <\/strong>took the top spot in both the 50 free (33.26) as well as the 50 back (40.16).<\/p>\n

Lake Washington\u2019s\u00a0Amelia<\/strong> Hammer<\/strong>, who earned bronze in 2018, secured the gold in the 100 free after sprinting to the wall in 50.93, 1.5 seconds ahead of Bainbridge Island’s\u00a0Xaveria Rodriguez\u00a0<\/strong>(52.25). Rodriguez (24.38) then teamed up with\u00a0Sydney Sorenson\u00a0<\/strong>(25.27),\u00a0Emma Solseng\u00a0<\/strong>(24.03) and Hayes (23.40) to win the 4×50 free relay in 1:37.08.<\/p>\n

Bainbridge Island’s\u00a0Margaret Hayes\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 IM, stopping the clock in 2:03.61 ahead of runner-up Siripipat (2:04.73). Bellevue’s Lei (52.82), Gracie Hackworth\u00a0<\/strong>(55.19),\u00a0Rachel Jin\u00a0<\/strong>(52.90), and Rudolph (47.77) concluded the meet as they won the 4×100 free relay in 3:28.68.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
