{"id":402674,"date":"2019-11-18T09:10:08","date_gmt":"2019-11-18T16:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=402674"},"modified":"2019-11-18T10:10:45","modified_gmt":"2019-11-18T17:10:45","slug":"wada-bosses-to-decide-fate-of-russian-sport-at-december-9-compliance-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/wada-bosses-to-decide-fate-of-russian-sport-at-december-9-compliance-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"WADA Bosses To Decide Fate Of Russian Sport At December 9 Compliance Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>WADA&#8217;s Russia Decision Day On December 9<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Russian athletes are due to be heard before Christmas whether they can still include the<strong> Tokyo 2020\u00a0Olympic\u00a0Games<\/strong>\u00a0in their plans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The\u00a0World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Executive Committee (ExCo) <\/strong>will meet on December 9 to decide the fate of Russia,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/wada-ponders-latest-russian-responses-in-manipulated-doping-data-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> including a possible whole-nation ban<\/a>, after\u00a0considering\u00a0formal recommendations from the organisation&#8217;s<strong>\u00a0independent Compliance Review Committee (CRC). <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Decision date was set\u00a0yesterday\u00a0at a meeting of CRC members after they had considered\u00a0a report from the Agency\u2019s <strong>Intelligence and Investigations Department (I&amp;I)<\/strong> and independent forensic experts into\u00a0ongoing compliance procedure brought against the <strong>Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA)<\/strong>, the role of the<strong> Russian Ministry of Sport <\/strong>in the mix.<\/p>\n<p>The December 9 meeting will be significant to all Russian sports, including swimming, and the legacy of <strong>Sir Craig Reedie<\/strong>, whose presidency of WADA ends at the close of this year.<\/p>\n<p>In a WADA statement, the global anti-doping police body, noted:\u00a0&#8220;The WADA I&amp;I report was based on its assessment of a number of inconsistencies found in some of the data that was retrieved by WADA from the Moscow Laboratory in January 2019. Photo Courtesy: WADA<\/p><\/div>\n<p>None of those cases involve the much larger number of test samples included in the investigation and report in cases involving &#8220;inconsistencies&#8221; believed to include athletes from aquatic sports.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the meeting of WADA bosses on December 9 decides, it appears that we can expect further revelations ahead at the start of Olympic Year 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile December 9 will mark the last set of decisions taken by Sir Craig, who gives way to the start of a new era on January 1, 2020, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/witold-banka-is-wada-boss-who-is-he-what-can-we-expect-on-his-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Witold Banka, the former Polish 400m runner and Sports Minister, takes over the WADA presidency<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WADA&#8217;s Russia Decision Day On December 9 Russian athletes are due to be heard before Christmas whether they can still include the Tokyo 2020\u00a0Olympic\u00a0Games\u00a0in their plans.
