The 2019 Wisconsin Girls Division II State Swimming & Diving Championships took place on Nov. 15 at the University of Wisconsin natatorium in Madison.<\/p>\n

Edgewood dominated the meet, sweeping all three relays en route to winning their fifth-straight title with a total of 290 points ahead of McFarland (163.5) and Ashwaubenon (141.5). Edgewood set new Wisconsin DII state records in the 4×50 medley relay as well as the 4×50 free relay.<\/p>\n

Edgewood began their winning ways as Anna teDuits<\/strong> (26.27),\u00a0Abby Reid\u00a0<\/strong>(30.56),\u00a0Izzy Enz\u00a0<\/strong>(25.18), and\u00a0Maeve O’Driscoll\u00a0<\/strong>(22.50) combined to win the opening 4×50 medley relay in 1:44.51, eclipsing their own 2017 DII state record of 1:44.59.<\/p>\n

Soon after helping her medley relay team earn gold, teDuits was back in the water to win the 200 IM in 2:06.28 while holding off a charging\u00a0Ella Houwers\u00a0<\/strong>of Whitewater who took a close second in 2:06.99. For the second-straight season, Houwers earned the state title in the 100 breast after touching the wall in 1:05.07 for the win.<\/p>\n

Edgewood earned gold and silver in the 50 free as O’Driscoll sprinted to first in a quick 23.30 followed by her teammate A. Reid was right behind in 23.49 for second. O’Driscoll, who has committed to the Golden Gophers<\/a>, later tied Ashwaubenon’s Brie Bellile <\/strong>for third in the 100 free in 51.70.<\/p>\n

River Falls freshman\u00a0Ellery Ottem\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 200 free, winning by over three seconds in 1:49.54 as the only swimmer in the field to break the 1:50 barrier. Enz, another freshman, finished second in 1:52.55. Ottem then went on to win the 100 free in her rookie season, stopping the clock in 50.70 ahead of A. Reid (51.59).<\/p>\n

Rhinelander’s\u00a0Malia Francis\u00a0<\/strong>flew to the top of the podium in the 100 fly, getting her hands to the wall in 56.23 to win by over a second and a half. Her second victory of the day came in the 100 back where the sophomore powered home in 54.72 for a one-second victory over last year’s champion Mara Freeman<\/strong> (55.68) of McFarland.<\/p>\n

Hallory Domnick <\/strong>of Ashwaubenon dominated the 500 free after placing fourth in 2018, cruising to first in 5:04.85 for an 11-second victory over Greendale’s Jocelyn Zgola\u00a0<\/strong>(5:11.47). It was a 1-2 punch for Whitnall on the 1-meter diving as junior Bella Smith\u00a0<\/strong>posted a score of 440.60 for the win followed by teammate\u00a0Kamyla Held\u00a0<\/strong>who totaled 427.85 points for second.<\/p>\n

Edgwood’s O’Driscoll (23.69), DeeDee Walker\u00a0<\/strong>(23.70),\u00a0Sophie Reed\u00a0<\/strong>(24.30), and A. Reid (23.07) broke the DII state mark in the 4×50 free relay with a time of 1:34.76. Enz (53.01), teDuits (51.43), S. Reed (53.57), and Walker (51.53) made it a relay sweep for Edgewood as they concluded the meet as 4×100 free relay champions by six seconds in 3:29.54.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
