We hope to do well with the national team.&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>If Detti&#8217;s effort places him 8th in world so far this season, <strong>Marco De Tullio<\/strong> fell a couple of slots shy of the top 10 on 3:41.38 after chasing Detti over the closing 100m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The race made them second and third best Italians on the clock so far this season, after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/simona-quadarella-leads-a-rush-on-meet-marks-at-nico-sapio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3:39.64 at the <strong>Nico Sapio meet<\/strong> last week from <strong>Matteo Ciampi<\/strong><\/a>. European events allow four entries per nation (two only in finals), each nation responsible for its own selection criteria.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>An interesting winter ahead for Detti on the way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2020-tokyo-olympic-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tokyo 2020<\/strong><\/a>: come the dawn of the Chinese Year of the Rat next January 25, the Olympic 400m and 1500m podium placer&#8217;s pantheon could be a silver up and a bronze down.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Detti finish third to <strong>Sun Yang<\/strong> over 400m freestyle at the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2019-fina-world-aquatics-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> World Championships<\/strong><\/a> back in July. Should<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/wada-tampering-is-the-hammer-that-cracks-sun-yangs-playbook-finas-grammar-gymnastics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> the <strong>Court of Arbitration for Sport<\/strong> agree to a WADA demand<\/a> to impose a penalty of between 2 and 8 years on the Chinese swimmer, then Sun will forfeit World titles claimed over 200m and 400m freestyle in Gwangju back in July.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It would then remain to be seen if <strong>FINA<\/strong> will organise the kind of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olympicchannel.com\/en\/original-series\/detail\/take-the-podium\/take-the-podium-season-season-1\/episodes\/take-the-podium-trailer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Take the Podium\u201d reallocation-of-medals ceremonies that the <strong>International Olympic Committee<\/strong><\/a> has started to promote. If so, then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/australian-coaches-back-mack-horton-call-on-fina-to-back-isl-zero-tolerance-on-doping\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Aussie Mack Horton<\/strong><\/a> may yet be named World champion if CAS judgement goes against his nemesis. The 200m crown would go to Japan&#8217;s<strong> Katsuhiro Matsumoto<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sun-yang-vs-wada-the-anti-doping-tests-the-olympic-champion-the-hammer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A decision on Sun is expected in January next year<\/a>, though no date has been set after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/hammer-hearing-sun-yang-lost-in-translation-from-babylon-dawn-to-cameo-dusk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a hearing was help in Montreux yesterday.<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Back to Massarosa and the women&#8217;s 400m free went to<strong> Rita Caramignoli<\/strong> in 4:02.75.
