{"id":402293,"date":"2019-11-15T08:51:54","date_gmt":"2019-11-15T15:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=402293"},"modified":"2019-11-15T08:51:54","modified_gmt":"2019-11-15T15:51:54","slug":"elizabeth-beisel-issues-apology-after-survivor-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/elizabeth-beisel-issues-apology-after-survivor-controversy\/","title":{"rendered":"Elizabeth Beisel Issues Apology After &#8216;Survivor&#8217; Controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Elizabeth Beisel<\/strong> issued an apology for her controversial conduct on an episode of \u201cSurvivor\u201d where she and another contestant, <strong>Missy Byrd<\/strong>, played up charges of inappropriate touching against another player for strategic advantage.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/whats-next-for-three-time-olympian-elizabeth-beisel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">three-time Olympian<\/a> issued a statement on Twitter about the situation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you are reading this, I am assuming you have watched the most recent episode of Survivor and are looking for answers,\u201d Elizabeth Beisel wrote in the statement. \u201cAfter watching the episode, my eyes were opened to a completely different truth, and I received an abundance of information that I was entirely unaware of while playing the game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo Kellee. I was sick to my stomach watching the episode and seeing how much pain you were in,\u201d she continued. \u201cI wholeheartedly apologize to you for using your accusations against Dan for gameplay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The full apology is below.<\/p>\n<p>On the show, <strong>Kellee Kim<\/strong> told bird that another contestant, <strong>Dan Spilo<\/strong>, a Hollywood agent, touched her inappropriately even after she told him to stop.<\/p>\n<p>During Wednesday\u2019s tribal council meeting on the show, Elizabeth Beisel and Byrd talked about Spilo making them uncomfortable.<\/p>\n<p>But Kim was voted off the island on the show and Beisel and Byrd admitted to creating their stories for competitive advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Beisel is a three-time Olympian, competing in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 games for the U.S. In 2012, she won the silver medal in the 400 IM and a bronze in the 200 back in London.<\/p>\n<p>She competed collegiately for Florida and last competed a the 2017 World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>She is not the first Olympic swimmer to appear on the show. <strong>Katrina Radke<\/strong> appeared on the show in 2017.
