She competed in the 50m free at Winter Nationals last short course season and placed seventh in the 100 free at Y Nationals. A current junior at Homestead High School, Hartlieb finished 10th in the 200 IM and 14th in the 100 back during her rookie campaign at the Wisconsin DI State Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding her commitment, she said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #bdbd0b;\"><strong>&#8220;I&#8217;m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Iowa! Last winter, she recorded three best times at Juniors West before going on to final in a pair of events at NCSAs.<\/p>\n<p>Also competing for Edina High School, Merkel is already a four-time Minnesota 2A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed fourth in both the 100 fly and 200 IM as a sophomore while taking ninth and eighth, respectively, in those events during her freshman season.<\/p>\n<p>She told\u00a0<em>Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cI am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Iowa!
