Rio Olympian Koti Ngawati<\/strong> (Melbourne Vicentre, VIC) has cashed in on a solid preparation with a memorable sprint double and a $1000 bonus after a successful two days racing at the 2019 Hancock Prospecting Australian Short Course Championships in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Ngawati (24.63) added the 50m freestyle title to the 100m freestyle crown she secured on night one with a powerful victory over Julia Hawkins<\/strong> (Nunawading, VIC) 24:80 and Mia O\u2019Leary<\/strong> (St Peters Western, QLD) 25:07 in the 50m freestyle final.<\/p>\n

And she then showed her staying power with a thrilling dash for cash to win the 200m, 100, 50m freestyle Skins event, edging out club mate Elyse Woods<\/strong> in the final 50m dash with $1000 up for grabs to the winner.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ngawati will now face a tough double on the final day when she goes head-to-head over 200IM with Meg Bailey<\/strong> (Hunter, NSW) who added the 100IM tonight to her 400IM title from night one.<\/p>\n

It will then be the 200m freestyle as Ngawati attempts a rare feat to add the 200m freestyle to her 50 and 100m titles.<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s Skins was one of the closest battles of the night with Nunawading young gun tradie\u00a0Matthew Temple<\/strong> out-touching Olympic champion Mack Horton<\/strong> by 0,18 in the final 50m.<\/p>\n

In the men\u2019s 200m freestyle it was visiting Malaysian Olympian Sim Wilson<\/strong>, who powered off the final turn to steal a march on his Australian rivals, Thomas Hauck<\/strong> (All Saints, QLD) and Joshua Hertz<\/strong> (SOPAC, NSW) who had led with 75 metres to swim.<\/p>\n

Wilson, a three-time gold medallist over 200 and 400m freestyle at the South East Asian Games, clocked 1:45.01 to Hauck\u2019s 1:45.42 with Hertz clocking 1:45.68.<\/p>\n

With Hauck the first Australian to touch the wall, the 16-year-old claims his second Australian title in two nights, after his eye-catching win in the 400m freestyle on Night One.<\/p>\n

There was no rest for the lanky teenager who backed up shortly after with a solid fifth place finish in the 200m backstroke (1:55.28) in a race that saw Rio Olympian Travis Mahoney<\/strong> (Marion) assert his authority on the race, winning in 1:51.28 from Bradley Woodwar<\/strong>d (Mingara, NSW) and Tristan Hollard<\/strong> (Southport Olympic) 1:54.39.<\/p>\n

Kiah Melverton<\/strong> showed no ill-effects from her 800m freestyle win on night one, backing up to lead a podium sweep to the Chris Nesbitt coached TSS Aquatic club with Melverton leading all the way to win in 4:03.50 with Moesha Johnson (4:06.84) again taking the silver with Commonwealth Games butterflyer Laura Taylor (4:06.86) the bronze.<\/p>\n

Sam’s the man with new All-Comers Record<\/strong><\/p>\n

The men\u2019s 100m breaststroke has a new player on the blocks with Firbank Aquastars Samuel Williamson<\/strong> claiming a new Australian All-Comers record in the heats of 57.62 in the heats (bettering Tommy Sucipto’s 2016 time of 57.67) to become the 4th<\/sup> fastest All-Time Australian, before winning gold in the final in 57.94.<\/p>\n

In the morning heats it was WA\u2019s Ben Roberts<\/strong> (Breakers, WA) who stole his first open title, winning the 800mn freestyle from Sam Short<\/strong> (Albany Creek, QLD) 7:53.44 with 2017 winner and three-time 1500m champion Joshua Parrish<\/strong> (TSS Aquatic, QLD) 7:53.74.<\/p>\n

Short, also an accomplished surf swimmer from a strong family history with Maroochydore SLSC, swam the fastest 800mm SC 800m by a 16-year-old \u2013 faster than previous record holder, none other than Olympic champion, Mack Horton<\/strong>\u00a0who set the previous best in 2012.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Jenna Strauch<\/strong> (Bond) claimed back-to-back National titles in the women\u2019s 200m breaststroke with an all-the-way victory in 2:21.75, ahead of Tara Kinder<\/strong> (DVE Aquatic) 2:23.31 with Sweden\u2019s Jessica Eriksson<\/strong> third in 2:23.61 and Pelican Waters 2012 Olympian Tessa Wallace<\/strong> taking the third placed Australian in 2:25.05.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the night 17-year-old Gabriella Peiniger<\/strong> (56.54) claimed her first National open title making her the seventh fastest all-time Australian when she stormed to victory in the women\u2019s 100m butterfly.<\/p>\n

The MLC Aquatic teen went out fast and the pack were unable to chase her down, with 16-year-old Olivia Collins<\/strong> (St Peters Western) touching for silver in 58.94 and Alice Stuart<\/strong> (TSS Aquatic) picking up bronze in 59.23.<\/p>\n
