The meet took place on October 12 at the University of South Carolina Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p><em>Full results can be found on Meet Mobile &#8211; 2019 SCHSL 4A Championships.<\/em><\/p>\n<h1>GIRLS MEET<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Eastside &#8211; 176<br \/>\n2. Hilton Head Island &#8211; 145<br \/>\n3. Greenville &#8211; 96<br \/>\n4. AC Florida &#8211; 71<br \/>\n5. SouthAiken &#8211; 68<\/p>\n<p>Eastside began their winning ways as the 4&#215;50 medley relay of\u00a0<strong>Riley Parker\u00a0<\/strong>(26.39),\u00a0<strong>Cara Bognar\u00a0<\/strong>(30.67),\u00a0<strong>Caroline Parker\u00a0<\/strong>(27.78), and\u00a0<strong>Hayden Penny\u00a0<\/strong>(24.61) combined to win in 1:49.95 at the start of the meet.<\/p>\n<p>R. Parker was soon back in the water to defend her 200 free title, stopping the clock in 1:52.50 to best the field by two seconds. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/gamecocks-get-2020-verbal-from-four-time-south-carolina-4a-state-champion-riley-parker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The future Gamecock<\/a> also repeated as champion in the 100 free, powering home in a final time of 51.45 for the victory to break her own 4A record.<\/p>\n<p>Greenville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anna Havens Rice<\/strong> crushed the 200 IM, winning by over five seconds to beat her own 4A record of 2:02.96 with a winning time of 2:02.40. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/six-time-south-carolina-state-champion-anna-havens-rice-verbally-commits-to-kentucky-for-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Kentucky commit<\/a> also repeated as champion in the 100 breast, getting her hands to the wall in 1:03.50 en route to breaking her own 4A mark.<\/p>\n<p>Lancaster&#8217;s <strong>Makenzy Mills\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 100 fly, taking the top spot in 55.32 to erase Bognar&#8217;s 4A record of 58.08. She then went on to defend her 100 back title in 56.43, also setting a new 4A mark.<\/p>\n<p>Bognar was the only swimmer in the field to crack the five-minute barrier in the 500 free, doing so in 4:59.55 to break her own 4A mark of 5:01.02. The senior also placed second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.71. Wren&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kate Beckish\u00a0<\/strong>defended her title in the 50 free, sprinting to the wall in 24.26.<\/p>\n<p>South Aiken&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kaitlyn Golyski\u00a0<\/strong>(24.64),\u00a0<strong>Kendall Leigh<\/strong> (25.82),\u00a0<strong>Emily Robinson\u00a0<\/strong>(25.62), and\u00a0<strong>Jordan Foster\u00a0<\/strong>(23.39) won a close 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:39.47 to edge out runner-up Dreher (1:39.94). Eastside&#8217;s Bognar (54.21),\u00a0<strong>Mady Miller\u00a0<\/strong>(57.28),\u00a0<strong>Ella Penny\u00a0<\/strong>(53.20), and R. Parker (50.92) secured their team title by breaking their own 4A record in the 4&#215;100 free relay in 3:35.61, five seconds ahead of the fiel.<\/p>\n<h1>BOYS MEET<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Eastside &#8211; 165<br \/>\n2. AC Flora &#8211; 96<br \/>\n3. Hilton Head Island-70<br \/>\n3. North Augusta &#8211; 70<br \/>\n5. Bluffton &#8211; 68<\/p>\n<p>The boys&#8217; meet began as North Augusta&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Thayer Loose\u00a0<\/strong>(24.43),\u00a0<strong>Zak Griffin\u00a0<\/strong>(25.68),\u00a0<strong>Madden Bell\u00a0<\/strong>(24.77), and\u00a0<strong>Matthew Owings\u00a0<\/strong>(21.45) won the 4&#215;50 medley relay in a combined time of 1:36.33. The same group also won the 4&#215;50 free relay, winning by nearly four seconds in 1:27.99.<\/p>\n<p>After taking second last year, Hilton Head Island&#8217;s <strong>Cohen Bruner<\/strong> cruised to first in the 200 free, winning by over four seconds in 1:43.22 for a new 4A record. The junior then went on to earn another gold in the 100 free, stopping the clock in 47.45 ahead of runner-up\u00a0<strong>Ryan Eldred\u00a0<\/strong>(47.52) of Myrtle Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Myrtle Beach&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ian Morgan\u00a0<\/strong>won a close 200 IM battle, finishing in 1:54.39 to edge out Loose (1:54.59). Both swimmers were under the previous 4A mark, but the record ultimately goes to Morgan. Morgan then dominated the 500 free in another 4A record, winning by 11 seconds in 4:37.51.<\/p>\n<p>South Aiken&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Reid Chaffin\u00a0<\/strong>sprinted to the top of the podium in the 50 free in 21.35, fast enough for a new 4A record of his own. AC Flora&#8217;s <strong>Tanner Edwards\u00a0<\/strong>set yet another 4A mark in the 100 fly, getting his hands to the wall in 50.48 ahead of runner-up Chaffin (51.40). Edwards also defended his 100 back title, breaking his own 4A record in 49.79.<\/p>\n<p>Griffin was the first of only two swimmers under the 60-second barrier in the 100 breast, winning in 57.38 for the second year in a row. Eastside&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brady Cawthon\u00a0<\/strong>(49.22),\u00a0<strong>Sam Wingard\u00a0<\/strong>(50.52),\u00a0<strong>Luke Northcutt\u00a0<\/strong>(50.45), and\u00a0<strong>Dakota Dudley\u00a0<\/strong>(49.54) secured their team victory by winning the 4&#215;100 free relay by four seconds in 3:19.73.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu for Eastside High School: both the girls and boys\u2019 teams have repeated as SCHSL 4A State champions for the third-consecutive year.
