The No. 22 Blue Devil women topped the No. 23 Seminoles 177-123 while the men fell just short to the 17th-ranked Florida State men’s side 147-153.

The Duke women took the lead early in the meet and never looked back. The men took an early lead and had some big swims to keep it close down the wire. Duke had a three-point lead going into the last event of the day but a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay gave the hosts the victory.

“We are very proud of the team’s performance today,” head coach Dan Colella said. “The theme going in was that it has to be a big team effort, and it was. It was a great testament to their courage to stand up and race the way they did today.”

Duke swimming enjoyed a plethora of individual victories throughout the meet. For the women, senior Alyssa Marsh and sophomore Melissa Pish led the Blue Devils as they each recorded three individual first-place finishes. Marsh touched the wall in 22.56 in the 50 freestyle, 49.69 in the 100 freestyle and 52.94 in the 100 butterfly, all for first-place finishes. Pish secured victories in the 1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle with times of 10:08.40, 1:49.12 and 4:54.48, respectively.

On the men’s side, senior Miles Williams led the Blue Devils with two first-place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles. He finished the events in 20.07 and 44.53, respectively.

Duke swimming sophomores Cabell Ann Whitlow and Easop Lee also added first-place finishes for the women Blue Devils. Whitlow touched first in the 200 freestyle 2:00.31. Lee topped the heat in the 200 backstroke in 2:00.45.

Duke swimming juniors Nathaniel Hartley and Zach Washart and sophomore Cole Reznick all secured first place finishes to boost the men’s side. Hartley topped the side in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.05. Washart was stellar in the 500 freestyle to touch first in 4:31.86. Reznick finished first in the 200 individual relay in 1:50.84.

For the Seminoles, sophomore Izaak Bastian held on for the victory in the 100 breast at 55.64 and freshman Maurice Ingenrieth won the 200 fly by almost one second at 1:49.31.

In the women’s meet, Florida State sophomore Hannah Womer led the Seminoles with three individual wins, claiming the 100 breast (1:03.41), 200 breast (2:15.81) and 200 IM (2:02.60).

More ACC coverage here.

The Duke Swimming and Diving program opened the season on the road in an ACC dual meet against Florida State Saturday morning.
