{"id":397904,"date":"2019-10-12T11:02:01","date_gmt":"2019-10-12T18:02:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=397904"},"modified":"2019-10-12T11:02:01","modified_gmt":"2019-10-12T18:02:01","slug":"canada-open-water-team-pulls-out-of-world-beach-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/canada-open-water-team-pulls-out-of-world-beach-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Open Water Team Pulls Out of World Beach Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"im\">Due to extreme water temperatures in Doha, Qatar, Team Canada has decided not to allow Canadian athletes to compete in the 5K open water swimming races at the ANOC World Beach Games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"im\">U.S. swimmers pulled out of the race <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/haley-anderson-ashley-twichell-stay-safe-honour-fran-by-pulling-out-of-qatar-beach-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">earlier this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the races set for early Sunday morning, Swimming Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee reviewed the information available with regard to the expected water temperatures. Federations were advised that the water temperature would be above the FINA maximum of 31 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe temperature conditions for this race do not meet the requirements of our Open Water Safety Checklist, which is in place to safeguard athletes,\u201d said Swimming Canada CEO <strong>Ahmed El-Awadi<\/strong>. \u201cAthlete safety will always be of paramount importance to our team, therefore Team Canada has no option but to withdraw our swimmers for their own personal safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swimming Canada Open Water Coach<strong> Mark Perry<\/strong> advised swimmers <strong>Raben Dommann, Eric Hedlin, Chantel Jeffrey<\/strong> and <strong>Kate Sanderson<\/strong>, and their coaches of this decision Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>\u2014 The above press release was posted by Swimming World in conjunction with Swimming Canada<\/i><i>.
