Michelle Coleman\u00a0<\/strong>of Sweden swam a stellar 24.26 in the 50 free on the first day of the 2019 FINA World Cup in Berlin as she moved into the top ten in the world for 2019 with that time, putting her at number seven. Coleman lowered her own best time by three tenths as she was a 24.5 last week in Budapest. She was a 24.9 at the World Championships earlier this summer but has since gone much quicker as the 24.2 she posted today would have put her fifth in the Worlds final. It was an impressive swim for the 25-year-old, who will turn 26 on Halloween, as she beat 2012 Olympic champ\u00a0Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>(24.65) and Worlds bronze medalist\u00a0Cate Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>(24.87).<\/p>\n

    Kira Toussaint\u00a0<\/strong>claimed another World Cup win and also broke her week-old Dutch record in the 50 back with a 27.49. Toussaint was a 27.68 in Budapest last week and went a few tenths quicker this week in Berlin, moving herself up to fourth in the world rankings. The 50 back is still not an Olympic event, but had she swum that time at the World Championships, she would have won the bronze medal. Toussaint was eighth in Gwangju with a 27.85.<\/p>\n

    The Dutch continued to have a solid meet in Berlin as\u00a0Arno Kamminga\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 59.15 in the 100 breast, just off his 59.0 from last week in Hungary, but he had a good race with Serbia’s\u00a0Caba Siladi\u00a0<\/strong>(59.71).<\/p>\n

    Japan’s\u00a0Ryosuke Irie\u00a0<\/strong>continued to show off his consistency with a 1:56.46 in the 200 back to win by three seconds. That was actually faster than what Irie swam to get fifth at the World Championships by less than a tenth. His season best time of 1:55.7 keeps him tied for sixth in the world for the year.<\/p>\n

    Lithuania’s\u00a0Danas Rapsys\u00a0<\/strong>and Russia’s\u00a0Vladimir Morozov\u00a0<\/strong>continued to vie for the top spot in the World Cup rankings as Rapsys won the 400 free (3:47.65) and Morozov won the 50 (21.55). Morozov has the lead in the World Cup standings ahead of Rapsys and USA’s\u00a0Andrew Wilson<\/strong>, who is instead in Naples at the International Swimming League meet in Italy. Morozov will take off to Texas next week where he will be swimming in his ISL debut with Katinka Hosszu’s\u00a0<\/strong>Team Iron while Rapsys will stay and do the next World Cup stop in Kazan, Russia November 1-3.<\/p>\n
