SLOVAKIAN Olympian Martina Moravcova has won just about everything there is to win, including the European Championship 100 fly title two years ago in Helsinki.

She also holds the U.S. Open/NCAA record in the 200 yard free, carted home numerous national collegiate titles during her glory days in the mid-1990s at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, so what's she got to prove?

Apparently once was definitely not enough and at next week's Euros in Berlin, with world record-holder Inge de Bruijn out of the picture, Moravcova could have her best international competiton ever.

She's tuning up for that by swimming in this weekend's Speedo/Texas Senior Circuit Championships at the Texas Swimming Center, and this evening she went a world-leading and pr 57.95 to win the 100 fly, after a strong 25.39 50 free earlier.

Moravcova split 27.44 going out, coming home in 30.51. When she did her old pr (57.97) she was out in 27.17, so she was a bit more balanced tonight. Her fly time moves her into 15th on the all-time performances' list, fifth performer, No. 2 all-time in Europe.

Her 50 free of 25.39 is just off her pr 25.24. On Friday night she won the 200 free in a seaonal pr 1:59.69.

Think Germany's world record-holder, Franny Van Almsick, who went 1:57.7 at the German Trials in May, is starting to hear the sound of splashing and
kicking?

Some other good swims at the meet include a 52.61 100 fly by Texas' American record-holder, Ian Crocker; a 2:02.09/1:50.19 200 back-200 free double by 29-year-old ex-Longhorn Josh Davis, AR-holder in the 200 free; Alexandra Spann's 1:12+ 100 breast win; Tammie Stone's 25.28 50 free victory; and Tommy Hannan's 23.15 50 free.

Crocker's American Record is 52.25 from last summer's World Championshipss so 52.61 in-season is indeed fast. The world's No. 1 time this year belongs to Germany's Thomas Rupprath with his 51.89 from the German Trials, just .08 off Michael Klim's world-record from December of '99.

Southern California's Industry Hills club is attending the meet and IHAC's Hentzer sisters, Morgan and Whitney, proved rude visitors as they went one-two in the 400 free. Seventeen-year-old Morgan won (4:17.04) with Whitney close behind (4:17.12).

Industry's Kevin Clements, a former Auburn All-America, won the 400 IM (4:27.35) and Texas World Champion (200 breast) Brendan Hansen won the 100
in 1:02.33.

Hansen will be after Mike Barrowman's world and U.S. 200 breast record (2:10.16) at Lauderdale and Yokohama. He won both breast races at NCAAs for
the seconed-consecutive season this past March in Athens, setting an AR in the 200.

His time from Fukuoka (2:10.69) ranks him fifth on the all-time performances' list, fourth-best performer (three and three domestically).

— Bill Bell

2002 SPEEDO CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
TEXAS SENIOR CIRCUIT LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
TEXASX SWIMMING CENTER
UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS
AUSTIN, TX.,

DAY THREE: July 20, 2002

** Meet Record

WOMEN'S 50 M Freestyle
===============================================================================
26.39  OLYM
26.79  NATL
27.29  OPEN
28.79  QUAL
Name               Age Team                 Prelims     Finals
Points
===============================================================================
A –
