Australia’s\u00a0Cate Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>put down yet another 100 free win at the 2019 FINA World Cup Budapest as she swam a 53.00 100 free to win ahead of Sweden’s Michelle Coleman\u00a0<\/strong>(53.45) and 2012 Olympic champ\u00a0Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>(53.81). Campbell was quicker at the World Championships but she showed she is the queen of consistency, swimming a 53.0 early in the season. That time she swam would have been fifth in the World Championship final. Campbell remains one of the favorites to win the Olympic gold next summer as she won the silver at the World Championships this summer.<\/p>\n

Arno Kamminga\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands put down another top ten ranked at the 2019 FINA World Cup Budapest as he won the 200 breast with a 2:07.96, putting him in a tie for ninth in the world for 2019. Kamminga moved into the top ten in the world<\/a> in the 100 breast on Friday as he lowered the Dutch record in both the 100 and 200 breast this weekend.<\/p>\n

This was especially impressive for Kamminga as he swam faster than he did at the World Championships. Nobody at this meet is remotely rested so the fact Kamminga is swimming best times in early October has to give him some confidence heading into the Olympic year in 2020.<\/p>\n

Lithuania’s\u00a0Danas Rapsys<\/strong>, who elected to swim at this meet<\/a> instead of the International Swimming League going on in Indianapolis, continued his World Cup assault with a 1:45.97 in the 200 free. Rapsys touched first in the World Championship final but was disqualified for flinching at the start, but he has been on a tear this World Cup circuit, swimming the world leading time in the 200 free in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Spain’s\u00a0Mireia Belmonte\u00a0<\/strong>was well off-form at the World Championships, winning no medals and missing the 200 fly final after coming in as the reigning World and Olympic champion. Belmonte won the 800 free in Budapest for her first gold of the 2019 World Cup circuit with an 8:31.42. She was eighth in the Worlds final with an 8:25 so she is not far off from that.<\/p>\n
