Notre Dame hosted Florida State Friday in the dual meet. The Irish women finished with a score of 183.5 to the Seminoles\u2019 116.5, and the Notre Dame men racked up 171 points to Florida State\u2019s 129.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abbie Dolan\u00a0<\/strong>swam the nation&#8217;s fastest time in the 200 free<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2019-florida-state-vs-notre-dame-ncaa-college-2019-10-04.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RESULTS<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Notre Dame Swimming and Diving Press Release<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After the visiting Seminoles touched first on men\u2019s and women\u2019s 200 Medley Relays, the Irish came back strong with two first-place finishes in the 1000 Free by <strong>Lindsay Stone<\/strong> and <strong>Zach Yeadon<\/strong>. Yeadon broke a pool record, finishing with a time of 8:57.69, the fastest time in the NCAA this season.<\/p>\n<p>From there, the Irish attack took shape, as <a href=\"https:\/\/und.com\/sports\/swim\/roster\/season\/2019-20\/player\/abbie-dolan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Abbie Dolan<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>Sadler McKeen<\/strong> brought home wins in the 200 Free, while <strong>Bayley Stewart<\/strong> touched the wall first in the women\u2019s 100 Back.<strong> Jack Montesi<\/strong> came in second in the men\u2019s 100 Back, just .13 seconds shy of Florida State\u2019s <strong>Griffin Alaniz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame extended its lead with multiple top-three finishes in the 100 Breast, and <strong>Max Miranda<\/strong> kept the Irish hot with a win in the 200 Fly. Notre Dame women topped the 50 and 100 Free events, with <strong>Rachel Wittmer<\/strong> (50) and Abbie Dolan (100) touching the wall first.<\/p>\n<p>Stewart brought home her second victory of the night in the 200 Back, while Montesi did the same on the men\u2019s side. The Irish swept all three top places in the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 500 Free, with <strong>Luciana Thomas<\/strong> touching the wall first for the women (4:56.65) and Yeadon nearly breaking another pool record with a time of 4:20.63 (.29 off the record).<\/p>\n<p>The Irish kept gliding with wins on both sides of the 100 Fly, courtesy of <strong>Coleen Gillilan<\/strong> and <strong>Zach Smith<\/strong>, while Gillilan and Miranda earned the victories in the 200 IM. Finally, Notre Dame swept the 400 Free Relays, culminating in an <strong>Aaron Schultz<\/strong> come-from-behind swim to earn a victory for the Irish men, extending the lead over Florida State.<\/p>\n<p>On the other end of the pool, Irish divers <strong>Kelly Straub<\/strong> and <strong>Austin Flaute<\/strong> won the women\u2019s 1m and men\u2019s 3m contest, respectively. Straub finished second in the women\u2019s 3m competition, and Flaute earned a third-place spot in the men\u2019s 1m.<\/p>\n<p>The Irish won soundly on both sides, with key performances from younger swimmers and other veterans.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>\u201cThe rookie class, they seemed to show their depth and lived up to their ability. We weren\u2019t quite sure what we were going to get, but we found our identity a little bit,\u201d Notre Dame Head Coach Mike Litzinger said. \u201cSadler McKeen, Aaron Schultz, Jack Montesi, [and] Max Miranda had improvements tonight, so what we\u2019re doing is starting to go down our depth chart and find out if those athletes are really rising to the occasion.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Irish head to Lexington next week to take on Indiana and Kentucky in their first road meet of the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be a really good test, another opportunity for us to continue to grow,\u201d Litzinger expressed. \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to having an opportunity against those quality teams.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Florida State Press Release<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Florida State swimming and diving teams fell on the road to Notre Dame on Friday night at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.\u00a0 The men (0-1, 0-1 ACC) suffered a 129-171 loss and the women fell 226.5-183.5.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>\u201cWe had a great meet,\u201d FSU head coach Neal Studd said. \u201cWe fought hard. We just came up a little short. We\u2019re excited with how well our newcomers competed and we\u2019re looking forward to a great season.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sophomores <strong>Izaak Bastian<\/strong> and <strong>Nina Kucheran<\/strong> led the Noles with three wins each, including both the 100 and 200 breast.\u00a0 Freshman <strong>Peter Varjasi<\/strong> and senior <strong>Griffin Alaniz<\/strong> were each a part of two victories.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Seminoles outlasted the Fighting Irish (1:29.13) in the men\u2019s 200 medley relay behind Alaniz, Bastian, sophomore <strong>Max McCusker<\/strong> and Varjasi at 1:29.00.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notre Dame answered with big swims in the 1000 free and 200 free, but the Seminoles rallied with four wins in the next five events, starting with Alaniz in the 100 back with a time of 48.64.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Seminoles got a big boost in the 100 breast as Bastian and Varjasi provided a one-two finish with time of 55.04 and 55.64 respectively.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FSU capitalized on the 50 free with another first and second place showing behind sophomore <strong>Kuba Ksiazek<\/strong> (20.51) and freshman <strong>Ian Cooper<\/strong> (20.89). McCusker (21.05) and freshman <strong>Francesco Peron<\/strong> (21.11) were fourth and fifth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Seminoles were dominant on the 1-meter springboard behind junior<strong> Joshua Davidson<\/strong> and senior <strong>Cam Thatcher<\/strong>. Davidson won with a score of 321.45 ahead of Thatcher in second at 317.18.\u00a0 Davidson later added second place points on 3-meter with a total of 340.73, while Thatcher was fourth at 291.23.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Varjasi added another victory in the 100 free with a time of 44.97 in order to put the Noles in the lead, 88-81.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alaniz was the runner-up in the 200 back, followed by Bastian with his second win of the day with a time of 2:00.20 in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notre Dame reclaimed and extended its leads behind a sweep on the 500 free, but the Noles exercised its depth in the 100 fly as McCusker placed second at 48.99, followed by senior <strong>Vladimir Stefanik<\/strong> in third (49.11) and freshman <strong>Domen Demsar<\/strong> (50.52) in fifth to keep the meet within reach for the Seminoles at 114-131 with three events to go. But, the Irish added another sweep in the 200 IM, to claim the meet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 400 free relay, the Seminoles and Irish went wire-to-wire behind Varjasi, Peron, Ksiazek and Stefanik, turning in a time of 2:58.17 for second place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team of freshman <strong>Tania Quaglieri<\/strong>, Kucheran, along with sophomores <strong>Aryanna Fernandes<\/strong> and <strong>Kertu Alenk<\/strong> won the women\u2019s 200 medley relay with the time of 1:39.39.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kucheran came from behind to win the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.98.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sophomore <strong>Hannah Womer<\/strong> followed with a win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.30, which was close to her personal best swim (1:59.19). Fernandes was third (2:01.86) and senior <strong>Dorothy Halmy<\/strong> was fourth (2:03.23).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senior <strong>Ayla Bonniwell<\/strong> edged out Irish diver <strong>Kelly Straub<\/strong> on 1-meter for the victory by 0.68 with a score of 301.28. Her classmate, <strong>Molly Carlson<\/strong> added a second place finish on 3-meter with a score of 275.48.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Junior <strong>Rebecca Moynihan<\/strong> led the Noles in the 50 free with a time of 23.65 for second place heading into the break. Sophomore <strong>Maddie McDonald<\/strong> was also second in the 200 back (2:02.35) ahead of Quaglieri in third (2:03.67).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kucheran and Womer cruised to a one-two finish in the 200 breast, led by Kucheran at 2:14.04 followed by Womer at 2:17.01.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fernandes (2:03.67), Kucheran (2:04.30) and Womer (2:04.35) closed the meet by finishing second, third and fourth in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team of Moynihan, freshman <strong>Lizzie Harris<\/strong> and sophomores <strong>Lauren Hew<\/strong> and Alnek clocked a time of 3:25.16 in the 400 free relay for second place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Florida State will host Virginia Tech and Duke on Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Morcom Aquatics Center.
