Dutch Divas Crack 2008 Records<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

It took 11 years but the Dutch women’s 4x100m medley short-course record and club-standard equivalent, which had both stood to quartets in shiny suits since 2008, have finally been cracked: Maaike De Waard, Kim Busch, Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> claimed the National Relay Championships<\/strong><\/a> title in Eindhoven on 3:55.98 at the weekend.<\/p>\n

The time was just inside the 3:56.07 national record established by the national quartet back in 2008 for fourth place at the World S\/C Championships, courtesy of Hinkelien Schreuder, Jolijn Van Valkengoed, Inge Dekker and Marleen Veldhuis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The new standard also took down the 4:00.28 national club record already held by Eiffel Swimmers PSV since … 2008.<\/p>\n

The splits: 59.12 from De Waard, Busch on 1:07.39, Kromowidjojo on 57.54 and Heemskerk on 51.93.<\/p>\n

A 56.65 from lead-off De Dolfijn’s Kira Toussaint<\/strong> established the world No1 for the current global short-course season. Toussaint clocked 55.92 last season and ended the 2018-19 short-course year as world No 1.<\/p>\n

There were two other national records at a relay event that has single-stroke relays and 10x100m free events that are not recognised internationally. The men\u2019s and women\u2019s 10x100m records fell to PSV squads in 8:22.99 and 9:13.88 respectively.<\/p>\n

Kromowidjojo, Toussaint, for Team Iron, and Heemskerk, for Energy, are among pro-team swimming pioneers heading for the first season of the International Swimming League<\/a> when a new chapter starts in the sport next week at the first match in Indianapolis (our coverage can be found on the ISL landing page<\/a>).<\/p>\n
