MONTREAL, July 7. NEARLY two years out of the water barely slowed Jenny Thompson down. Competing here in the three-day Quebec Cup less than two months into training for her comeback, Thompson won all four of her events, posting solid times each time she dove off the blocks.<\/p>\n
Tonight, the 29 year-old, 8-time Olympic gold medalist, took the fly and freestyle sprints. Jenny had no trouble taking the 50 fly in 27.54 seconds, then came back an hour later to win the 50 free in 26.25. On Friday she won the 100 fly (59.97) and yesterday she emerged the winner in the 100 free (56.48)<\/p>\n
Thompson's 50 fly swim tonight set a Quebec provincial record, as did her 100 fly on Friday.<\/p>\n
Another 29 year-old, Marianne Limpert, swam impressively to take the 200 IM in 2:16.85. Limpert holds the Canadian national record some three seconds faster.<\/p>\n
Fifteen year-old Kelly Kim, of the Badger Swim Club, notched a win in the 800 free, even-splitting her race to touch in 8:46.15. Yesterday she placed a strong second in the 400.<\/p>\n
Yannick Lupien won the men's 50 free in 23.64, as Craig Hutchison (23.75) battled with himn the entire length of the pool. Yesterday, Lupien had an easier time of it, winning the 100 free in 50.90, with Hutchison about three-quarters of a second in arrears.<\/p>\n
Brendan Neligan, Long Island AC, took the men's 1500 to go along with his win yesterday in the 400. Once again, the Michigan sophomore-to-be had an easy time of it, finishing in 15:56.42 to win by 17 seconds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
