Goldminds: Never Say Never<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

When success doesn\u2019t come easily or early\u2014relax! Success will come if you give everything you have to the achievement of your goals, and if you work tirelessly to be all you can be.<\/span><\/p>\n

Everywhere I go, parents and coaches will tell me about some “superstar” swim kid.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hear these stories all over the globe: stories about how talented and brilliant and amazing some young swimmer is and how it\u2019s inevitable he or she will be the best in the world one day.<\/span><\/p>\n

And my reaction is the same every time I hear these stories: chances are that this young superstar, this mega-talent, this brilliant kid will not even be swimming a few years from now.<\/span><\/p>\n

But somewhere in the pool is a young swimmer who will be extraordinary, who will achieve remarkable things and who will be the best of the best.<\/span><\/p>\n

The future world champion is unlikely to be the obvious young star who\u2019s winning all the races: more likely, it\u2019s one of those average kids who finds training and racing enjoyable, engaging and exciting.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve spoken with many world record holders, Olympic medal winners and high achievers in swimming and other sports. Each of them has a \u201csporting success story\u201d: his or her own personal story about the journey from starting to stardom.<\/span><\/p>\n

But of all the \u201csporting success stories\u201d I\u2019ve heard, this is NOT one of them: It was always easy for me. I was an amazing athlete right from the first time I jumped into a pool…<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
