Competing in the S6 category, Vargas broke Pan American Games records in every single event she won gold, winning the 50 fly (40.48), 100 back (1:33.03), 50 free (35.73) and 100 free (1:17.00). She took silver in the 400 free behind Mexico&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Vianney Trejo\u00a0<\/strong>with a 5:39.71 while Trejo was a 5:38.30 to break the Games record by 23 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Vargas&#8217; best performance came in the 50 free, where she won gold over Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Laila Suzigan\u00a0<\/strong>and got within three seconds of the world record of 32.78 held by\u00a0<strong>Yelyzaveta Mereshko\u00a0<\/strong>of the Ukraine.
