Today we look at the 1500M Freestyle splits by analyzing the current World Record set by Sun Yang<\/strong> at the London Olympics in 2012 and compare those splits to the World Junior Records set by Mack Horton<\/strong> in 2014 and most recently by Franko Grgic <\/strong>on August 25, 2019<\/div>\n

Analysis<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n
If you break down the race as 3 x 500, Horton and Grgic were over 5 seconds off Sun’s first 500 pace.\u00a0 Grgic had only a .26 second lead over Horton at the 500 mark.\u00a0 At the 1000 mark, Grgic pulled out in front of Horton by over 2 seconds (2.01) but fell behind Sun by 8.56 seconds.\u00a0 The final 500 saw Sun extend his lead to 15.07 seconds with a blistering 53.49 for his final 100 meters.\u00a0 Grgic came home in a 57.38 over Horton’s 57.74 to set the World Junior Record and by 5.46 seconds.<\/div>\n

For Grgic to break Sun’s World Record, it appears that he would have to take out the first 500 much faster and hold pace for the middle and final 500.\u00a0 The real kicker would be the last 100 meters.\u00a0 Sun’s last 100 was smoking fast.\u00a0 His second last 50 was 1.2 seconds faster than the field and his his last 50 was 3 seconds faster than Horton and 2.61 seconds than Grgic.\u00a0 Sun was on fire!<\/div>\n

Basically, if anyone wants to break Suns World Record but cannot bring it home like Sun, they would have to Even split the 500’s at 4:50.50<\/div>\n
