Maurer will continue his family legacy, as both his mother and father swam for Stanford.<\/p>\n<p>Primarily a freestyler, Maurer owns five U.S. Open standards with the Trials cut in the 100m free and does his club swimming with NASA Wildcat Aquatics. He&#8217;s coming off a great summer season where he earned 100% best times at Junior Nationals en route to earning silver in the 100m free with three other finals appearances. This past winter, he won the 100 free at Illinois Seniors before going on to claim gold in the 500 free, silver in the 100 free and bronze in the 200 free at NCSAs.<\/p>\n<p>Also competing for Loyola Academy, Maurer is a four-time Illinois State Championship finalist. He won the 100\/200 free combo as a junior after placing third and fourth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season. He has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.<\/p>\n<p>He told\u00a0<em>Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #9e0808;\"><strong>&#8220;I am honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at Stanford University. I\u2019d like to thank all my family, friends, and coaches that helped me get to this point. I am excited to join a great group next year! #GoCardinal&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50 free &#8211; 20.29<\/li>\n<li>100 free &#8211; 44.00<\/li>\n<li>200 free &#8211; 1:36.33<\/li>\n<li>500 free &#8211; 4:21.05<\/li>\n<li>200 back &#8211; 1:46.62<\/li>\n<li>200 IM &#8211; 1:49.71<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Maurer will look to translate his recent long course success into another stellar short course season this upcoming year before arriving at Stanford as a member of the class of 2024. When he does suit up for head coach <strong>Dan Schemmel<\/strong>, he&#8217;ll add his talents to a loaded freestyle training group that&#8217;ll be led by\u00a0<strong>Jack LeVant<\/strong>.
