The FINA World Cup Asia cluster has officially come to a close as many of the best aquatic athletes in the world are still enjoying some time off from training and competing before officially gearing up for the Olympic year in a couple of months. There were still some big headlines in the sport of swimming with Olympic medalist\u00a0Siobhan O’Connor\u00a0<\/strong>changing training locations and\u00a0Vladimir Morozov\u00a0<\/strong>moving up the world rankings list at the World Cup.<\/p>\n

Read below some of the biggest stories from the world of swimming last week in the week that was.<\/p>\n

The Week That Was #5: Masters World Championships Wrap Up in Gwangju<\/h3>\n

The FINA Masters World Championships concluded this week in Gwangju, South Korea after two weeks of competition as about 4,000 participants competed in the event that took place in the same facilities that housed the World Aquatics Championships last month.<\/p>\n

The Week That Was #4: Siobhan O’Connor Leaves University of Bath<\/h3>\n

Siobhan-Marie O\u2019Connor<\/strong>, the British Olympic silver medallist who gave Hungarian\u00a0Katinka Hosszu<\/strong>\u00a0a fright in her signature 200m medley at the Rio 2016 Games, is leaving the\u00a0University of Bath\u00a0program that has been her swimming home for the past 12 years.<\/p>\n

Next month, O\u2019Connor will set out on the final journey to the\u00a0Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games\u00a0at Britain\u2019s other key\u00a0performance centre in Loughborough, base for\u00a0Adam Peaty<\/strong>\u00a0and his coach\u00a0Mel Marshall<\/strong>, as well as\u00a0James Wilby<\/strong> and several other members of the national team.<\/p>\n

The Week That Was #3: Sheffield Named as England’s Sixth National Performance Centre<\/h3>\n

Sheffield has been confirmed as the sixth Swim England National Performance Centre.\u00a0The former ASA, the oldest federation in the world,\u00a0Swim England is working in partnership with swimming clubs and universities across the country to enable swimmers to combine sport and academic excellence.<\/p>\n

Last year, High Wycombe, Leeds, Guildford, Manchester and Nottingham were the first five venues named as performance centers in England. At Great Britain level, the two key performance centres are based at the universities of Loughborough and Bath.<\/p>\n

The Week That Was #2: Vladimir Morozov Breaks Three World Cup Records in Singapore<\/h3>\n

Russia’s\u00a0Vladimir Morozov\u00a0<\/strong>broke three meet records at the FINA World Cup in Singapore this past weekend with wins in the 50 free, 100 free and 50 back. Morozov was a 21.27 in the 50 free and was a 47.88 in the 100, moving into the top ten in the world in both events. The Russian is now second in the world in the 50 and is 10th in the 100, swimming quicker than he did at the World Championships in both events.\u00a0 Morozov also broke the World Cup record in the 50 back with a 24.40, which would have won the gold medal at the World Championships in Gwangju last month.<\/p>\n

The Week That Was #1: Danas Rapsys Swims World Leading Time in 200 Free<\/h3>\n

Lithuania\u2019s\u00a0Danas Rapsys\u00a0<\/strong>scorched the world leading time in the 200 free to break his own World Cup record with a 1:44.38, lowering his previous record at 1:45.07 from Jinan last week.<\/p>\n

Rapsys notably touched first in the 200 free final at the World Championships but was disqualified for flinching at the start. He was able to redeem himself a little bit with a 1:44.3, which was much quicker than the winning time from the Championships. Rapsys also moved up to sixth all-time with his swim as he won by four seconds over\u00a0Thomas Fraser-Holmes\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.69).<\/p>\n
