Ally McHugh<\/strong> earned her third individual title tonight at the 2019 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships<\/a> in the women\u2019s 1500 free (16:05.98).<\/p>\n

She attributes her success in the pool to her team and the amount of support they provide. Her swims this meet not only build her confidence<\/a> but excite her heading into the next year of training.<\/p>\n

“I didn\u2019t really have any expectations coming into this meet. I wasn\u2019t expecting to do that, but I\u2019m really happy with how the week turned out,” Ally McHugh said. “I just wanted to come in and have a lot of fun with my teammates and just get in and race people and be aggressive and swim things the way I wanted to.”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Kensey McMahon<\/strong> who finished in second (16:09.80) was ahead of McHugh for the first 1000 meters, but McHugh knew she just needed to stick to her strategy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw her going out really fast. How I swim my races <\/span>\u2014 I kind of build into it and get better as I go. I knew that I just had to stick to my race plan. She had a fantastic race. I’m so happy for her,” Ally McHugh said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
