{"id":388094,"date":"2019-08-04T20:00:07","date_gmt":"2019-08-05T03:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=388094"},"modified":"2019-08-05T16:00:52","modified_gmt":"2019-08-05T23:00:52","slug":"u-s-nationals-erika-brown-takes-home-gold-in-50-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-nationals-erika-brown-takes-home-gold-in-50-free\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Nationals: Erika Brown Takes Home Gold in 50 Free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 50 Free (Erika Brown)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tennessee Aquatics swimmer, <strong>Erika Brown,\u00a0<\/strong>moved up one spot from her seed going into finals and overcame the top seed, <strong>Anna Santamans.\u00a0<\/strong>The University of Tennessee senior swam a speedy 24.71, earning herself both a gold medal and a personal best. Brown is now 18th in the world and the third fastest American this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UU1Nr2UNeM4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Following behind Brown and earning silver in the event was <strong>Gretchen Walsh. <\/strong>The 15-year-old from Nashville Aquatic Club, hit the wall at 24.85 and bumped up two spot from her original seed going into finals.<\/p>\n<p>Anna Santamans was originally the top seed going into the event, however Walsh and Brown defeated her in the mad-dash to get the wall. Adding a few hundredths of a second from her prelims swim, Santamans finished with a time of 24.92.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth place went to Auburn University graduate, <strong>Aly Tetzloff.\u00a0<\/strong>Tetzloff had the fastest reaction time coming off the block and hit the touch-pad at 24.97.<\/p>\n<p>Coming into the wall shortly after Tetzloff, and finishing in fifth place with a time of 25.02 was Athens Bulldog Swim Club member, <strong>Natalie Hinds.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Catie DeLoof\u00a0<\/strong>finished in sixth place with a time of 25.11. The University of Michigan graduate is one of four sisters from the Deloof family to be competing at an elite level.
