GAMBIER, OH, June 18. PERENNIAL power Kenyon College has received the largest donation in its history, a record-shattering $25-million gift from an anonymous donor. The immense contribution is only the third gift of this size to be provided to a public or private liberal arts institution in the past decade. More importantly, the gift has been earmarked for programs in fitness, recreation, and athletics at Kenyon, including the construction of a new $60-million athletic\/ recreational\/ and fitness center highlighted by a new 50-meter aquatic facility and human performance laboratory.<\/p>\n
"This magnificent donation to the College is one of those transforming gifts, one that makes us enormously proud and grateful while raising the sights of everyone in the community," says Kenyon Provost Ronald A. Sharp, who will become the College's acting president in July. "Kenyon is truly honored to have won this extraordinary vote of confidence in the College's future."<\/p>\n
The gift should help assure the college that the teams don't suffer from the last-minute changes that marked the Ernst Aquatic Center. That project suffered from 11th hour decisions that left the school with a five lane, fifty-yard pool.<\/p>\n
Men's head Coach Jim Steen has spent the past year on sabbatical to help fundraise for the project. The Lords and Ladies didn't miss a step in his absence, with each picking up a NCAA Championship respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
