High school senior\u00a0Emma Weyant<\/strong> swam away with a new National Title in the women’s 400 IM at the 2019 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships on night three of competition. When asked what her race strategy was, the teen explained that she aimed to build through the fly and really bring it home in the back half, because that is where her strengths lie.<\/p>\n

The past year for Weyant has been a year of growth for Weyant as she has moved from the Junior Pan Pacs level to being a National Champion. She is just one of many younger swimmers making their mark at the 2019 edition of the National Championships.<\/p>\n

Weyant spent some time talking about her younger sisters (ages 15, 13, and 9) and how she spends a lot of time driving them around when she’s at home. One of her sisters,\u00a0Gracie<\/strong> (13) is also a swimmer, while the other two are dancers.<\/p>\n

When asked “why the 400 IM?” Weyant explained that she was a distance swimmer as a kid and that she enjoys training IM. “It’s a different kind of fun,” she said laughingly. Several media members seemed to get a kick out of this and one pointed out that legendary swimmers\u00a0Tom Dolan<\/strong> and\u00a0Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>never elected to describe the 400 IM as fun.<\/p>\n
