The Battle For First<\/span><\/h2>\n

Not only did this year\u2019s top high school swimmers turn in impressive performances, but six of the top eight will be returning next season, providing optimism for another year of fast swimming.<\/p>\n

CLAIRE CURZAN, Freshman
\n<\/strong>Cardinal Gibbons High School, N.C.<\/span>
\nClaire Curzan was the post prolific high school freshman in the nation this season. Swimming for Cardinal Gibbons High School, an independent school in Raleigh, N.C., Curzan turned in the second-fastest times in the country in two events, the 100 yard back (51.88) and 100 fly (51.60).<\/p>\n

ZOIE HARTMAN, Senior<\/span><\/strong>
\nMonte Vista High School, Danville, Calif.<\/span>
\nFor the second straight year, Zoie Hartman finished in second place for Swimming World\u2019s Female High School Swimmer of the Year honors. And for the second straight year, the senior from Monte Vista High School in Danville, Calif. ranked first in the 200 yard IM (1:55.29, more than a half-second faster than last year) and in power points.<\/p>\n

AYLA SPITZ, Senior<\/span><\/strong>
\nNewport Harbor High School, Newport Beach, Calif.<\/span>
\nAyla Spitz finished her strong high school career with national top times in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle (48.63, 1:45.02).
\nNext fall, she\u2019ll be moving from Southern California to northern California in Berkeley, where she\u2019ll be swimming for Cal.<\/p>\n

ETHAN HU, Junior<\/span><\/strong>
\nThe Harker School, San Jose, Calif.<\/span>
\nAt California\u2019s high school state championships this May, Harker junior Ethan Hu threw down a 45.72 in the 100 yard fly, the second-fastest mark ever recorded by a high school swimmer. The only man to go faster was Bolles\u2019 Joseph Schooling, who went on to win Olympic gold in the 100 meter fly in 2016, and Hu swam just 2-tenths slower with a year still to go in his high school career.<\/p>\n

JAKE MITCHELL, Junior<\/span><\/strong>
\nCarmel High School, Carmel, Ind.<\/span>
\nMitchell, a junior, finished the high school season as one of the country\u2019s fastest middle-distance freestylers. He put up a 1:34.24 in the 200 yard free and 4:16.72 in the 500 that both ranked second in the country for the 2018-19 high school season.<\/p>\n
