The 2019 Futures Championships at Geneva, Ohio, kicked off this afternoon. Today’s events included the women’s 800 free, men’s 1500 free and the 800 free relays. The meet is taking place at the SPIRE Institute from August 1 to August 4.<\/p>\n

Women’s 800 Free<\/h2>\n

Grit Aquatics’ and University of Florida commit<\/a> Tylor Mathieu <\/strong>started off the meet being the only swimmer under nine minutes. She won the event in a 8:55.74 with over an eight-seconds-drop. Brooke Travis<\/strong> from Nation’s Capital Swim Club placed second with a 9:01.33. Firestone Akron Swim Club’s Brooke Lamoureux\u00a0<\/strong>went home with the bronze in a 9:02.13.<\/p>\n

Alexa Reyna <\/strong>from Westchester Aquatic Club came in fourth (9:02.16), closely followed by Kingfish Swimming’s Alexa Connors <\/strong>(9:02.57) and Anna Kalandadze <\/strong>from Radnor Aquatic Club (9:02.97).<\/p>\n

Tide Swimming’s Sophia Knapp\u00a0<\/strong>finished seventh (9:03.19) while Ella Dyjak\u00a0<\/strong>from Connecticut Aquatic Club placed eighth (9:04.22).<\/p>\n

Men’s 1500 Free<\/h2>\n

Adam Zapatka <\/strong>from Charter Oak Aquatic Club went home with the victory in a 15:47.41. Scarlet Aquatics’s\u00a0Kyle Iorizzo <\/strong>got the silver with a 15:49.72. The third place belonged to\u00a0Zachary Washart\u00a0<\/strong>from Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club who clocked in a 15:57.13. Fellow teammate Shane Washart\u00a0<\/strong>placed fourth with a 16:01.68.<\/p>\n

Luke Landis <\/strong>from Upper Arlington Swim Club placed fifth (16:05.05), followed by Crimson Aquatics’s Andrew Berzolla <\/strong>(16:08.65). Empire Swimming’s Aidan Wilson <\/strong>(16:14.28) and Sam O’Brien <\/strong>(16:15.86) from The Fish rounded up the fastest heat of the event.<\/p>\n

Women’s 800 Free Relay<\/h2>\n

Phoenix Swimming went home with the title clocking in 8:25.85. Megan Reich<\/strong>, Carol-lena Breiter<\/strong>, Alexis Martino <\/strong>and Malia Amuan <\/strong>won the event by almost ten seconds.<\/p>\n

The second place belonged to Isabella Paoletti<\/strong>, Catherine Weaverling<\/strong>, Sydney Debaecke <\/strong>and Emma Menzer\u00a0<\/strong>from Delaware Swim Team (8:34.17). Tide Swimming’s Sophia Knapp<\/strong>, Kierstin Gofrey<\/strong>, Sophie Knepper <\/strong>and Brooke Lamoureux <\/strong>got the bronze (8:40.50).<\/p>\n

Men’s 800 Free Relay<\/h2>\n

Thomas House<\/strong>, James Edge<\/strong>, Nathan Holty <\/strong>and Jason Allen <\/strong>from Dayton Riders claimed the first place with a 7:44.82.<\/p>\n

Hudson Explorer Aquatic led off with the fastest split of the event (1:53.82) and finished second with Jay Johnson<\/strong>, Caleb Tuckerman<\/strong>, Jacob Tuckerman <\/strong>and Alexander Cimera<\/strong> (7:46.71). North Penn Aquatic Club’s\u00a0Jacob Replogle<\/strong>, Jack Deppen<\/strong>, Nicholas Clark <\/strong>and Maxwell Bachman <\/strong>came in third (7:49.24).<\/p>\n

After night one of competition Phoenix Swimming tops the women’s team scores while Dayton Raiders are leading the men’s side.<\/p>\n
