The USA Water Polo National Junior Olympics\u2014the world&#8217;s largest youth water polo tournament\u2014concluded play last Sunday. Both sessions were located in and around Irvine&#8217;s<span class=\"st\"> William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center<\/span> in balmy Southern California. Photo Courtesy: USAWP<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Being as congenial a host as is possible to the thousands parents and players who thronged to the final day of boys action at <span class=\"st\">Woollett <\/span>was USA Water Polo CEO<strong> Chris Ramsey<\/strong>. Revealing that he too has a connection to Brooklyn (doesn&#8217;t <a href=\"https:\/\/brokelyn.com\/brooklyn-style-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">everyone<\/a>?!) Ramsey kindly answered the basic question on the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest youth events in America.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>&#8211; What is your most memorable experience with JOs?<\/h3>\n<p><em>My JO experience started when going to watch my kids play when they were the 12 and under range. I was a 12U coach at Junior Olympics when I lived on the East Coast, so I learned a lot about the geographical diversity, or\u2014when I was starting out\u2014the lack of it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When I came to USA Water Polo, the one thing I was committed to was to making Junior Olympics one of the best water polo tournaments in the world.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We\u2019ve gone from about 120 teams to 860 teams this year\u2014and there were another 150 that didn\u2019t qualify. That\u2019s more than 1,000 teams going through the process.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We do a lot of surveying, and I think what you\u2019ll find is an extraordinarily high degree of satisfaction by the parents, the players and the coaches who are taking part in this tournament.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>&#8211; What do you notice has changed over they years\u2014for better or worse\u2014with your tournament?<\/h3>\n<p><em>Obviously, everyone wants everything to be better\u2014they want the officiating to be better, they want the coaching to be better, they want the play to be better.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>As somebody who\u2019s been here, the level of play has increased dramatically over the past 10 years.
