SHENANDOAH, Texas, July 31. THE first complete day of preliminary and championship swimming took place at the Speedo Champions Series stop being held in Shenandoah, Texas this week. <\/p>\n
The Woodlands’ Kelsey Vetalice kicked off the first full night of swims in a big way with a 57.01 to win the women’s 100-meter free. That swim cut nearly a second off the 16-year-old’s personal best of 57.89 from a month ago. FCST’s Madeline Locus finished second in 57.54, while FAST’s Alexandra Lakota placed third in 58.49. <\/p>\n
Magnolia’s Cannon Clifton followed with a 50.97 to win the men’s 100-meter freestyle finale, and break 51 seconds for the first time. His previous top effort had been a 51.09 from a year ago. BTA’s Alexander Hancock finished second in 51.15, while Nicolai Hansen picked up third in 51.56. <\/p>\n
Frisco 14-year-old Rachel Ramey turned in a 2:38.85 to win the women’s 200-meter breaststroke, while Christina Jonsson (2:39.66) and Bridget Pacilio (2:41.60) comprised the rest of the podium in the event. <\/p>\n
TWST’s Alton Sorensen crushed his personal best in the men’s 200-meter breast with a 2:21.10 for the win. His top time coming into today was a 2:23.12 from way back in 2008, so that’s a big time barrier broken. Teammate Jonathan Tybur placed second in 2:22.16, while Rostyslav Fedyna earned third in 2:23.45. <\/p>\n
Dallas Mustang 16-year-old Rileigh Thornton topped the women’s 200-meter backstroke in 2:21.11, downing her lifetime best of 2:22.50 by a large margin. Melanie McDonough (2:22.14) and Taylor Davidson (2:22.46) rounded out the podium in the finale. <\/p>\n
TCU’s Cooper Robinson dominated the men’s 200-meter backstroke event in 2:02.74. That cut a full second off his lifetime best from February 2012. Thomas Norman placed more than three seconds back in second with a 2:06.10, while William Crowe snared third in 2:06.85. <\/p>\n
TWST’s Dorothy Halmy, 15, cut more than two seconds off her lifetime best in the women’s 200-meter fly with a 2:17.55. That swim demolished her previous top time of 2:19.86 from August 2012. Tiffany Futscher took second in 2:18.63, while Chelsie Miller placed third in 2:18.86. <\/p>\n
El Paso’s David Ramirez took home the men’s 200-meter fly title in 2:05.04, while Donald Walker (2:06.40) and Antoine Marc (2:06.63) wrapped up the top three in the finale to close out night two. <\/p>\n
During the first night of distance freestyle timed finals competition, Chelsie Miller took home the women’s 800-meter free title in 9:02.83, while Colleen Konetzke placed second in 9:06.56. Jessie Woolley-Macmath snagged third in 9:06.89. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Colin Murphy won in front of a hometown crowd as The Woodlands’ swimmer posted an 8:26.05 in the men’s 800-meter free. Teammate Rhorer Legendre (8:29.31) and Connor Hennessy (8:34.07) rounded out the podium in that finale.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
