Regan Smith<\/strong> has gone from future star to present superstar with her week a the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.<\/p>\n

The U.S. teen shattered Missy Franklin<\/strong>‘s record in the 200 backstroke earlier in the meet, then put the exclamation point on her stellar meet with another world record \u2014 actually two \u2014 as she led off the 4×100 medley relay<\/a> with a 57.57 to break the 100 back world record (Kathleen Baker<\/strong> 58.00), then the relay won the world record in 3:50.40.<\/p>\n

After Smith obliterated the world mark of 58.00 to jumpstart the United States, Lilly King<\/strong>, Kelsi Dahlia<\/strong> and Simone Manuel<\/strong> flourished on their legs to help Team USA lop more than a second off the previous world record of 3:51.55. King on breaststroke (1:04.81) and Manuel on freestyle (51.86) produced the fastest splits on their legs while Dahlia (56.16) had the second-fastest butterfly leg.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter what I did in the 200 back, I was feeling really confident and really excited, and I had a really good feeling going in,\u201d Smith said. \u201cI was super, super happy when I finished.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
