The eighth and final session of the 2019 FINA World Championships<\/a> have come to a conclusion and what a final session it was!<\/p>\n

Throughout the entirety of the finals session,\u00a0Swimming World photographer\u00a0Becca Wyant<\/strong> was on deck capturing the action and excitement, while\u00a0Swimming World\u2019s\u00a0Craig Lord, John Lohn, Liz Byrnes <\/strong>and\u00a0Andy Ross<\/strong> reported on the action from Gwangju, South Korea.<\/p>\n

Lilly King<\/strong> added a second gold medal to her name and successfully defended her 50 breast title, while Italian teenager\u00a0Benedetta Pilato<\/strong> claimed the silver.<\/p>\n

Germany’s\u00a0Florian Wellbrock<\/strong> outlasted an all-European final in the men’s 1500 free and Japan’s\u00a0Daiya Seto<\/strong> held off American Jay Litherland<\/strong> to claim victory in the men’s 400 IM.<\/p>\n

Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> of Hungary continued to make history and become the first woman to win five titles in a single event with her victory in the women’s 400 IM.<\/p>\n

A quick anchor split from Great Britain’s\u00a0Duncan Scott<\/strong> propelled Great Britain to victory in the men’s 400 medley relay, ahead of Team USA’s anchor\u00a0Nathan Adrian<\/strong>. The British men won 3:28.10 to the USA’s 3:28.45, while Russia finished third with a 3:28.81.<\/p>\n

The American women ended the World Championships with not one World Record, but TWO. 17-year-old\u00a0Regan Smith<\/strong> propelled the American women to a dominating start and secured her second individual World Record of the meet in the process in the 100 back. Teammates\u00a0Lilly King, Kelsi Dahlia,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Simone Manuel<\/strong> continued the momentum and the foursome demolished the previous World Record of 3:51.55 by more than a second with a 3:50.40.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
