The mixed free relay has only been contested at the World Championships in 2015 and 2017 with the United States winning the only two versions of the event.<\/p>\n<p>Every single team in the final will be swimming M-M-F-F.<\/p>\n<p>Australia was expected to be the heavy favorite coming into this meet if they put out their best four swimmers. But the Aussies will be resting\u00a0<strong>Cate Campbell<\/strong> for the final to focus on the 50 free semifinal tonight and the 4&#215;100 medley relay tomorrow. Rest assured,\u00a0the Aussies will swim\u00a0<strong>Bronte Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong>, making them formidable favorites still.\u00a0<strong>Kyle Chalmers\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Clyde Lewis\u00a0<\/strong>will be swimming the first two legs as Chalmers will line up alongside\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>for the United States after their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/caeleb-dressel-dives-into-history-with-46-96-pioneering-sub-47-top-fend-off-kyle-chalmers-47-08\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">epic 100 free duel<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>This race is not an Olympic event, while the mixed 4&#215;100 medley relay is.<\/p>\n<p>The Americans have won the only World titles in this event and they will have a strong team to make it three straight tonight. Dressel will give way to\u00a0<strong>Zach Apple<\/strong>, who split a 46.8 earlier in the week in the men&#8217;s 4&#215;100 free relay.\u00a0<strong>Mallory Comerford\u00a0<\/strong>will swim the third leg while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/more-under-pressure-excellence-carries-simone-manuel-to-gold-in-100-freestyle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World Champion<\/a>\u00a0<strong>Simone Manuel\u00a0<\/strong>will anchor.<\/p>\n<p>Canada will be tough to beat on the back end with\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ruck\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Penny Oleksiak\u00a0<\/strong>as long as\u00a0<strong>Markus Thormeyer\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Yuri Kisil\u00a0<\/strong>keep them close. The same could be said for the Netherlands, who will be anchoring with the iconic duo of\u00a0<strong>Femke Heemskerk\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>France will also be a dark horse for a medal with\u00a0<strong>Clement Mignon\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Mehdy Metella\u00a0<\/strong>on the front end. The French, along with the Russians, pose two of the stronger front halfs in the field. Russia will have\u00a0<strong>Vladislav Grinev<\/strong>, who won the bronze behind Dressel and Chalmers, and\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov\u00a0<\/strong>on their front end.
