The fifth finals session of the 2019 FINA World Championships<\/a> took note from the night before as two World Records were posted, both from Team Australia. First,\u00a0Matthew Wilson<\/strong> equaled the men’s 200 breast World Record<\/a> of 2:06.67, becoming the first Australian to hold the World Record since 2009. The Australian women later added a new World Record in the 800 free relay<\/a>, taking down one of the last remaining records from the shiny suit era.<\/p>\n

Throughout the entirety of the finals session,\u00a0Swimming World photographer\u00a0Becca Wyant<\/strong> was on deck capturing the action and excitement, while\u00a0Swimming World\u2019s\u00a0Craig Lord, John Lohn, Liz Byrnes <\/strong>and\u00a0Andy Ross<\/strong> reported on the action from Gwangju, South Korea.<\/p>\n

Team USA collected two individual gold medals on night five with wins from\u00a0Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> and\u00a0Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>. Smoliga won the women’s 50 back in American Record fashion, while Dressel won the men’s 100 free in the same fashion.<\/p>\n

Hungary’s\u00a0Boglarka Kapas\u00a0<\/strong>powered past Team USA’s\u00a0Hali Flickinger<\/strong> to claim the World Championship title in the women’s 200 fly, while\u00a0Katie Ledecky<\/strong> returned to the water for the final of the women’s 800 free relay.<\/p>\n
