Global brand arena have announced their recruitment of American Abrahm DeVine<\/strong> as the latest addition to the company\u2019s roster of swimming champions. The 22-year-old all-rounder has been a member of Stanford University\u2019s Cardinal since 2015, winning two NCAA 400 IM titles, and is currently with the national team competing at the 2019 FINA World Aquatic Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.<\/p>\n

Growing up in his home town of Seattle where he swam with the Cascade Swim Club, DeVine garnered national attention as a junior, making the Junior National Team in 2014, before heading south to Palo Alto to study and swim with the Cardinal. He made an immediate impact as a freshman, and in subsequent years developed into the team\u2019s natural leader, winning back-to-back 400 IM NCAA titles in 2018 and 2019.<\/p>\n

DeVine\u2019s first major international meet was at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, where he made the 200 IM semi-final. A year later he made the final in the same event at the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo, finishing fifth. In Gwangju he will make his second World Championship appearance, once again in 200 IM, joining fellow arena-sponsored US athletes Haley Anderson<\/strong> (open water), Ella Eastin<\/strong> (200 IM), and Eleanor Smart<\/strong> (high diving).<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled \u2013 obviously \u2013 and also really flattered that arena has taken me on,\u201d said DeVine. \u201cIt comes at a really important time in my life, now that I\u2019ve finished college and am looking forward to my next set of challenges. So to have such a renowned brand in my corner \u2013 not to mention the best racing products on the market \u2013 gives me great confidence that the future has exciting and wonderful things in store, for both of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

arena is the exclusive outfitter\u00a0of the U.S. national team, which has already enjoyed medal success in the open water events at the 2019 World Championships, with Anderson winning the 10km silver, Hannah Moore a 5km bronze, and another bronze coming in the 5km relay event.<\/p>\n

Having completed his studies in Computer Science, DeVine will focus on swimming in the immediate future, competing for Alto Swim Club under coach Dan Schemmel<\/strong>. Following the 2019 World Championships, his next primary goal is to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. DeVine showed great courage in 2018 when he publicly declared he is gay, making a significant statement in the ongoing effort to eliminate prejudice in American sports.<\/p>\n
