IRVINE, California, August 7. AFTER a total of seven meet records went down yesterday at Speedo Junior Nationals in Irvine, the record board was untouched in the first three events of prelims on Wednesday. However, that wouldn’t last the entire morning, as the record went down twice in the men’s 100 fly.<\/p>\n
Women’s 400 Free
\nSarasota Y’s Danielle Valley comfortably led the prelim qualifiers in the women’s 400 free. Valley, already the runner-up in the 800 free on Monday, finished first in a time of 4:12.79. Marietta Marlins’ Stephanie Peters finished more than a second back in 4:13.95, while Clearwater’s Becca Mann rounded out the top three in 4:14.79. Mann already has a win at the meet, having won the 800 free on Monday. Bluefish’s Brooke Zeiger, who finished second in the 400 IM on Tuesday, grabbed fourth overall in 4:14.73.<\/p>\n
Mission Viejo’s Brooke Lorentzen (4:15.54), Area Tallahassee’s Cecilia Williams (4:15.78), The Woodlands’ (4:16.22), and Nova of Virginia’s Jessie Gvozdas (4:16.66) all earned spots in the top eight.<\/p>\n
Men’s 400 Free
\nNova of Virginia’s Francis Haas took first among the men in the 400 free. His 3:53.48 clocking paced qualifiers into the A-final by more than a second. Crimson’s Liam Egan edged Santa Clara’s Aidan Burns for the second seed, 3:54.63 to 3:54.80, while Sarasota Y’s Alexander Katz finished fourth in 3:54.82. Katz twice set the meet record on the way to victory in that event on Tuesday. Dayton Raiders’ Brock Turner (3:55.33), ahead of brothers Kevin (3:55.96) and Jay Litherland (3:57.11). Clearwater’s Nazareno Boscaino picked up the final transfer spot into the A-final at 3:57.24.<\/p>\n
Women’s 100 Fly
\nA trio of swimmers got under the 1:00 barrier in qualification for the final of the women’s 100 fly. Mantas’ Danielle Mack took first in 59.62, while Tualatin Hills’ Michelle Cefal came in second in 59.78. Flint Y’s Courtney Weaver grabbed the third seed in 59.92. Mission Viejo’s Katie McLaughlin, going for her second win of the meet after her victory in the 200 fly, narrowly missed getting under the barrier, as she qualified fourth in 1:00.00<\/p>\n
SoNoCo’s Dana Grindall (1:00.30), Redlands’ Sonia Wang (1:00.41), Bellevue’s Kathryn Kinnear (1:00.46), and Sandpipers’ Olivia Barker (1:00.46) all made their way into the final heat. Meanwhile, Palo Alto’s Ally Howe and SwimMAC’s Alyssa Marsh each clocked 1:00.99 to tie for 16th, setting up a swim-off. In that swim-off, Howe took the race out hard in 28.72 to Marsh’s 29.26, but Marsh tracked her down and touched her out, 1:01.52 to 1:01.59, so she earned the final spot in the B-final. <\/p>\n
Men’s 100 Fly
\nConnor Green held the meet record in this event last year at 53.16, but Bolles’ Santo Condorelli took that mark down in heat 22, clocking 53.11. Terrapins’ Justin Lynch didn’t let that mark last long, however, clocking 53.05 in the final heat to lead the way into the final. Duneland’s Aaron Whitaker grabbed third with a 53.42, while Condorelli’s teammate Caeleb Dressel qualified fourth in 53.70.<\/p>\n
Nation’s Capital’s Andrew Seliskar posted a monster effort in the 200 fly on Monday to earn that victory, and he picked up a spot for the final of the 100 fly with a time of 53.74. City of Mobile’s William Glass (53.84), Dynamo’s Joseph Bentz (54.05), and Santa Barbara’s Alexander Valente (54.20) all will swim in the A-final tonight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
