Day Five Heats (Women’s 4×200 Free Relay)<\/em><\/p>\n

The Australians posted the top time in the women’s 4×200 free relay as they will have lane four in the final. The team of\u00a0Leah Neale\u00a0<\/strong>(1:58.30),\u00a0Madison Wilson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.46),\u00a0Brianna Throssell\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.70) and\u00a0Kiah Melverton\u00a0<\/strong>(1:59.18) put up the fastest time at 7:50.64 with the United States sitting in second place.<\/p>\n

Allison Schmitt\u00a0<\/strong>(1:59.37),\u00a0Gabby DeLoof<\/strong> (1:58.35),\u00a0Melanie Margalis\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.37) and\u00a0Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.49) got the US the second seed at 7:51.58.<\/p>\n

Throssell scratched the 200 fly yesterday to focus on the mixed medley relay, which helped Australia win the gold medal at finals.<\/p>\n

“I just thought it\u2019d be better to scratch in case I had to be put in the mixed at night and focused on the 4×2,” Throssell said. “So it had to be made really quick because I only had 30 minutes to make up my mind but I don\u2019t regret this decision.”<\/p>\n

It is expected to come down to Australia and the United States for the gold medal tonight as the Australians are expected to bring in\u00a0Ariarne Titmus\u00a0<\/strong>and Emma McKeon\u00a0<\/strong>while the Americans will bring in\u00a0Katie<\/strong> Ledecky <\/strong>(if she’s healthy) and potentially\u00a0Katie McLaughlin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“(McKeon and Titmus) swam so well so far this meet so I think tonight will be a really good race,” Throssell said.<\/p>\n

Russia will have lane three in the final as they were a 7:52.66 this morning. China (7:54.10) and Germany (7:54.30) were also able to make it through.<\/p>\n

Canada (7:55.10) is expected to be competitive in the final with the additions of\u00a0Taylor Ruck\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Penny Oleksiak\u00a0<\/strong>to the finals team.\u00a0Kayla Sanchez<\/strong> and\u00a0Emily Overholt\u00a0<\/strong>are expected to be the other two unless\u00a0Rebecca Smith\u00a0<\/strong>gets the nod.<\/p>\n

Hungary (7:55.40) and Japan (7:56.00) also qualified for the final.<\/p>\n

Poland (8:01.70), New Zealand (8:03.28), Hong Kong (8:04.98) and Korea (8:08.38) also picked up Olympic qualification spots by placing in the top 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
