Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> and the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong> will have a rematch from 2017 when Manuel turned the jets on to blast past Sjostrom and claim gold in the final stretch of the race, but they will need to fend off the likes of Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cate Campbell,\u00a0<\/strong>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong>, the Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong>, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Each member of the men&#8217;s 200 back podium from 2017 return in the 2019 preliminary session and will seek to qualify for the semifinals. For Team USA, this could mean a shot at two more medals assuming\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Jacob Pebley<\/strong> defend their spots on the podium. Russia&#8217;s <strong>Evgeny Rylov<\/strong> returns as the top seed and a shot at defending his World Championship title, which would be a nice compliment to his 100 back silver medal.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yulia Efimova<\/strong> will begin her quest to defend her 200 breast title, but will need to keep Americans\u00a0<strong>Lilly King<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Micah Sumrall<\/strong> at bay. Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> and Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Reona Aoki<\/strong> should not be counted out as challengers as they enter with close seed times.<\/p>\n<p>Defending World Champion\u00a0<strong>Anton Chupkov<\/strong> returns as the top seed in the men&#8217;s 200 breast with a seed time of 2:06.80, making him the only athlete to dip belove the 2:07 mark. 2017 bronze medalist <b>Ippei Watanabe<\/b> will seek to remain on the podium with the second fastest entry time, but the two returning medal winners will need to fend off challengers like\u00a0<strong>Josh Prenot<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Andrew Wilson,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Ross Murdoch,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Marco Koch.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Team USA delivered a strong win in the 800 free relay at the 2017 FINA World Championships, but after withdrawing from the 200 free prelims session and the final of the 1500 free, Team USA could be missing a key member of their successful relay: <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>.
